Hello All! I'm a new 11' Outback 3.6R Limited owner and I'm looking for the best and easiest way to get a few extra HP's without taking the car completely apart. Plus, it's my commuter so I don't want to kill the MPG's.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!!

Just installed the side cargo nets... I can't believe I took my Dewalt drill to my brand new car... project completed and looks great! Next is the hood scoop/protector.

So far, I haven't seen anything even talked about that doesn't involve major investment of time & money. I saw a thread a couple of weeks ago that someone was developing a supercharger setup. But, I haven't even found a tuning setup for these things, much less anything else.. :8:

I have searched high and low- in short there aren't any aside from a k and n filter and lightweight pulley. Cobb is not going to make an access port for our cars so changing the intake and exhaust (on your own bc there aren't aftermarket setups tailored for the ob becomes very difficult since you need to tune the car after install). The only options that are made for our cars besides what is listed above is the rsb sway bar kit and the GT-spec front strut tower brace, and items you can order from Paul at http://get-primitive.com/ such as a lift kit, king springs, and skid plates. Paul and rally sensations both offer a bolt on light bar. Thats about thebextent of what I have learned to date. All of this can be researched in more detail by searching the forum.

I have the K & N myself... don't expect to notice any difference.

I never understood why people start at the intake side looking for performance boosts. The biggest bottleneck on most cars is at the exhaust side, and you can throw filters and CAIs at your car all day and if it can't get out the other end, its not much worth it. Just remember your engine is an air pump with fire in the middle of the process.

The catalytic converter is obviously a huge exhaust obstruction, but its also not all that legal to readily mess with. A new car like this, you're basically stuck keeping what you've got. Basically, you have to work around it. Beyond its ecological benefits (whole discussion there aside), it does do you another favor - it makes a modestly good muffler. Many cat-back exhausts take advantage of this, and just smooth out what's left of the noise after the cat. Its also what I've always considered the logical place to start making power - starting at the tailpipe.

After skipping just ahead of the cat, you get into the downpipes, headers/manifolds, and Y pipes (depending on the car). That'd be my next stop.

Once you can blow the stuff out the back efficiently, your next major bottleneck is probably your heads - but that gets into the 'taking apart' you don't want to do. That being the case, then is when I would say to skip ahead to the filters and CAIs and such.

That's why I stated "Breathe and Blow" until a decent exhaust comes out the K&N filter will do. It's a filter you can re-use instead of replace.....so what's the issue?

Those all sound great except I haven't any aftermarket companies making any of them for the Gen 4 Outback.

Euchre and NutoSUB are right. I need to find someone near me with a mandrel bender. I'd make me a cat- back already!!!
Anyway, to the OP: Check out the STI sway bar mod and some new brake bads/ SS braided lines. More "woah" before "go". BTW, increasing your rear sway bar diameter will decrease the tendency to under-steer but will also increase rear end "hop" over uneven surfaces. Most have been pleased with it though.

1. the sock air intake is
a. already cold
b can flow way more air than the 3.6R can take in

you want the best bang for your buck? get the raptor headers and put them in place of the collectors on the car. This will be the absolute best $ per HP mod out there. Second best will be a tune...

put the 2013-14 suspension on your car for a better ride
put a 20mm rear bar on to help
you can also do a front strut tower brace
