Hey all,

I purchased my first Subaru in 2009. I updated in 2015, and in late 2018 purchased the 2019 Outback limited. Since we loved our previous 2 Subarus we purchased the 8yr 80,000 mile extended warranty. This is the first Subaru with apple CarPlay. The system works great, but is buggy connecting at times. This while aggravating was tolerable. Recently while on a short day trip the entire multimedia system went haywire. The music playing would start and stop and the display began flashing from one thing to another. All this was happening while we were using gps trip routing as we were in an unfamiliar area. The touch screen and all controls did not work. It began to get dark, and having the screen flashing while trying to find our way home was a big distraction. We made it home and I called the dealer to get it checked out. Of course when I brought the car in I did not do it. I had made a video showing what it was going, but the dealer was not interested in looking at it. There response was, at least you have 2 more years on your extended warranty. Now I can understand, that may Subaru put some restrictions on what the dealer can do, they told me to come right in if it starts again. I went on Subaru’s web site, and emailed them about the situation. No contacting response at all. The quirks continue not always the same. The other day while driving, with my phone not connected to CarPlay, but connected to Bluetooth started randomly calling numbers in my contacts, of
course this time, and a couple other times it happened when the dealer was closed. So I tried emailing Subaru again. This was over a week ago, and still no response. I am a big fan of Subaru for the reliability and handling in winter in upstate NY. I will have to rethink purchasing another Subaru when the time comes, if this is the response you get when trying to contact Subaru corporate about a problem. Thoughts??

We are currently going through this issue on our 2019 Outback. Bubbles on our screen, display flashes and is non responsive. Its a local vehicle so still very low milage.

We contacted Subaru and were instructed to take it to a local dealership where they quoted us $2000 to replace. We then called corporate and they said since there isn't any known issues at this time or recalls, that the best they could do to help compensate for the repair was to take $1000 off. So we are still $1000 out of pocket.

This feels unacceptable because I feel like this is a faulty issue with the head unit design. They did say that if this head unit was ever recalled or anything came up in the future that we could call back and get a refund on the cost of the replacement. So I guess there's that.

Your screen is delaminating. Our unit would only have "phantom touches" when the sun would shine on the screen and warm it up. Very annoying as it locks up the entire infotainment unit. It is a very prevelent problem and many of the units are backordered. Your dealership should be replacing it with a $100.00 co-pay as those units are recalled. I suggest you park it in the sun for a while making sure the sun is shining on the infotainment screen and see if it acts up again. Just make sure if they ask you how you clean the screen you say with a dry cloth. I've heard of claims being denied because the owner admitted to cleaning the screen with car cleaner or touching the screen with hand sanitizer still wet on their hands.
