I traded in my 13 3.6R sedan and my 2019 Mustang GT. The old SUBARU insurance was about 1200 It went up to about 2100 annually. $860 of the increase was just for comp and collision. I didn’t lose any major discounts. In fact I gained $30 in discounts overall. I didn’t change any coverages whatsoever.
This is Allstate who I’ve been with for many years and who I worked for for 29 years as a claim rep. Prior to this, my premiums went up a total of 40% over the last couple years, which is very typical for Pennsylvania among other states. I have no accidents or tickets on my record.
Erie insurance computers are finally back online after three weeks and the agent was able to give me a quote for 1247 with all the same coverages. And they include a rate lock where they say unless I change drivers or my car or my address my rate won’t change. I have to look into that further. I’m not familiar with it.

I was with Allstate until 2007, then I changed to GEICO (Berkshire Hathaway's company). My rate dropped by half. Today, my 2013 Legacy with solid coverages and low deductible is about $650/year. And this is after 100% increased which happened two years ago because of the inflation, parts and labor increases. I was $380/year before that. GEICO is the way to go.

Take your Allstate policy and copy the coverages into the GEICO quote and you'll see how much it could drop with the same coverages.

Erie is a super company. I have had them since 1982. We bundle house, car, and umbrella policy together. The safety features on the OB triggered a lot of discounts.

I just switched to Erie last fall. $2500 OTD for house (500K), 2 cars (Subie and RX7) and a 1M umbrella. I even use their app that pays me $5 every 2 weeks!
Of course it IS the first year...

I'm in Maryland. I had USAA for a very short time once I began even basic price shopping. Went to GEICO for over 25 years and thought I was doing OK, then I found ERIE and under a combined house/car my payments fell so low I won't even put them here. That applies for the cost of both. ERIE is the highest rated ins. in Maryland for good reason. If you are near MD/NoVA/DC hit me up for the contact info of my agent.

Statistically the Outback should be on the cheaper side to get Insurance for.

My Insurance has gone up last few years like everyone else but when I traded in my '17 Impreza for a '24 Premium Outback the cost was about 1100 a year still in MA for me. (currently progressive)
It's possible the Turbo maybe has a higher risk/cost associated with it.

No matter who you buy, I suggest a broker and not a single-line. A single-line seller can't do anything except shrug.

I’m in SW Pa and have had my home and car with Erie for decades. The home insurance has gone up every year for a bit, but when i traded my 08 Outback for a 2024, my car insurance actually went down. I even added extra windshield coverage. My annual premium is close to $600

not only does it pay to shop companies, it also pays to shop agencies wthin a company.Find an agent w/o a huge staff and not in an expensive office building. been my experience, the company has a range for whatever policy and sometimes one agency will quote a lower premium just cause they have a lower overhead

Yep, find a independent agent that can shop many insurance companies. When we dropped the lease on the 23 Nissan Rogue, and bought the 24XT last April, the Outbacks full coverage was cheaper. I asked about it, was told, it's because of all the safety features on the Outback.

We've been using the same agent since about 2006.

I may very well shop around soon too. Currently with Progressive for the last few years (before that was State Farm since I was 16.) Rates have crept up on both Auto & Homeowners. I get that, it's inevitable. Both cars (2025 OBW & 2021 Toyota C-HR) are ~ $1100/yr. Homeowners now ~ $1300/yr. All of this is moot for others as lots of variables come into play, including credit rating. Of which both the wife and I are North of 830 FICO score. I found that going from the 2022 Outback Premium non-turbo to the 2025 OBW turbo didn't cost anymore $$$, same coverage. That was nice..

Still, I'll have to get with an independent agent to shop around. Cars come due in October, house next April. Between this and property taxes... ugh!

Edit: For giggles, I went out and did an online quote from Liberty Mutual for both cars & the house. What a joke.. they're stupid high compared to what I've got with Progressive. And, less coverage on the cars too. Funny how they knew A LOT of information about us already with only my name & BD as search items. Kind of scary actually..

Needless to say, they're out.

You do know, you can get a package rate for the home and cars. Our agent, found us a package from NLC Insurance, in Norwich CT. We have been with them for a number of years.

I think a lot of people buy insurance from a company that has a pending rate increase and don’t know it because they don’t check. I have actually called the state insurance department to see if a carrier has a rate increase pending. Here in PA they have to get the rates increases approved in advance.
At any rate, I think the rate lock feature of the policy will prevent any rate increases indefinitely as long as I don’t change cars, drivers or address.
In the way of an addendum to my original post, in addition to the $850 savings on the car, Erie is also saving me $200 on my umbrella and about $250 on my condo policy. That is 68% savings on the car, 66% savings on the umbrella and almost a 50% saving on the condo.

We use USAA for everything insurance wise. We also use them for banking and some investments and occasionally for travel.

We once took an anniversary cruise that we booked through them and when we went to dinner the first night we did not have the table for two that we had booked. We contacted USAA to express our disappointment. They contacted Holland America corporate in Seattle who then contacted the ship. We got our table and profuse apologies.

They are a great company.

I have Erie and pay $750 a year for my WFH lifestyle in MD as a dude in his 50’s. My Erie went down when i got my 2020 XT Touring with trading in a 2015 2.5i Limited.

i do not like any insurance carrier who spends millions and millions on TV ads. So Erie always wins for me.

Insurance is a racket! No claims, no tickets AND I have the NY defensive driving course on record and my combined auto and renter's insurance is $125 a month! Oh, and I've been with the same company for 15-20 years.

Yes, I've had my agent shop around (though not recently). No, my rate would not be appreciably different if I went to another company that my agent can sell. In fact - the primary rate different is because I have an "OEM parts" rider on my insurance that forces the company to use ONLY Subaru parts if I have to have my vehicle repaired (I think this costs about 10%). The insurance company I'm with (Nationwide) is one of the few, if not the only, that offers that. After what my brother just went through with getting his Ascent repaired (non-OEM bumper didn't fit right) there's no chance I'm taking that off.

Oddly, car insurance (as well as homeowners) premiums are based only in small part on the driver's individual record. Increases are primarily related to factors outside the control of the policyholders. The past several years have seen significant increases in premiums due to factors such as weather (storm damage losses) increases in the cost of cars and their repair, increases to re-insurance rates and other factors not related to a driving record or claim history. While you may have had the same insurer for 15 years, there is no loyalty on their side.....file a claim and see how fast they drop you.
Generally speaking, I believe folks are far better off dealing with a mutual company as opposed to one that is publicly traded.
