Hi all, I just installed this Android radio, it's excellent, everything works, it was plug and play from my old unit. Has everything I wanted, and the plus was that it has wireless android auto, which I didn't think was available from the ad online. Steering wheel buttons, even door and hvac settings show up on the display, it's pretty nice.

Here are the links to the unit, as well as the purchase of the canbus since I have a factory reverse camera and the harmon kardon unit.

UPDATE: Got the reverse camera working! Read the following threads....

The one thing that doesn't work, I'm not sure how to connect it is why, is the reverse camera. There are a few wires which I believe need connecting, but I'm unsure which to connect. If you have one of these android units that required a canbus, let me know how you connected, it would be a big help. Thanks!
The reverse camera does not use CANBUS to switch. It needs the brown with black stripe wire from the wide 28pin connector. pin 2. Looking at the connector in your hand, wires facing away, with the bumps facing up, its the top row, 2nd pin in from the LEFT.. I'll screen shot the service manual with arrows. lol.

Just to clarify, is the problem switching to the reverse camera, or connecting the video out itself?

Its a digital video signal from the camera module, so if you need a yellow analog RCA jack input, you need an adapter box to go from the digital signal to a analog output, then plug that into the unit.
If you look at connector i146, in the pic above, lower right corner of the page, that is the digital signal. The adapter box will need all 4 of those wires connected to it according to its directions. (plus power and a ground from one of the other plugs)

and one more thing, for the reverse camera wiring, it doesnt matter if you have the audio amplifier or not. both 7 inch displays are the same for the camera. If you had the 6.2 inch display, the 28 pin connector has pins 20-11-12-13 for the camera signal wires. I know you probably dont, but if someone is checking on this later with the smaller display system, heres how it goes:

First, you've helped me out!

I can now get the unit to switch to the reverse camera mode when changing gears. The only problem is that it's blank. I'll likely need something to get this working.

The unit supplied all of the fittings/connections so I assumed that the signal was processed correctly.

I'm now looking at the settings on the unit to make sure I didnt miss anything before purchasing an additional adapter.

Are you still liking the unit? How's the glare? My 15 is completely washed out in the sun. Did you get an upgraded screen or just the default one?

Thanks!

I love it! Compared to the ancient oem unit, yeah this is the best around, honestly better than any standard double din unit. I didn't get the upgraded screen, the standard IPS one is very good.

To add to this, I usually have it on android auto 100% of the time. It auto connects to my phone once I hop in. It also allows for setting the touch button lights to red, which matches the interior lights for buttons. Looks completely slick and people think it's oem. Oh also, I set the startup logo as a subaru logo, so when it resets or starts up, it shows the subaru logo.

So it sounds like I have the exact same car. 2015 limited HK unit with nav.

Could you tell me exactly what you bought? Then I will order it and wait a month.

Thanks for doing this. You are awesome
I purchased the headunit, the M300S model, I didn't want one with more memory since I use android auto 100% of the time, but I did want one with a fast processor so booting up would be quick: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256...l?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.740c18021BqUwl&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US
The canbus adapter for the headunit (pick the one for a subaru): https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256801184510691.html
The step down video adapter: Axxess AX-SUB5RVC-6V Backup Camera Adapter
And for fun I also purchased the usb adapter, so that the stock oem usb plugs connect directly to the headunit: Metra AX-SUBUSB2 USB Adapter

For the price, it can't be beat. I was about to buy a pioneer double din for more than $1200 until I saw this on these forums. This has a larger screen, full android, wireless android auto/apple carplay, and looks awesome!

Hi, I've been following this chat and picked up the same units.
But I can't seem to get the steering wheel controls to work.

Have tried all of the different CAN BUS options in the settings but it still doesn't recognise.

Maybe there a plug I'm missing?

Thanks for the response, was a bit of a frusted hail merry question.

I think I found the solution.

The return plug from CanBus to Android box (2 White cables) wasnt making contact even though they were plugged in.
(Found it on another forum) so might not be uncommon issue?

Now have signal but it's a bit messed up, (incorrect doors, controls etc.)
looking for correct Canbus setting.

Here are my settings.. After you choose the can box type, make sure to select the controller type from the other settings menu, took me a while to figure that second option out.

Yes, my original hvac works. If yours does not, it's likely the canbus selection.

I've been following this thread and ordered pretty much the same thing. I have a 2017 Outback with the HK audio and Navi. I'm still sorting out the canbus/controller settings to get my steering wheel controls to work. The issue I'm coming across is that my rear camera isn't working. The screen is black with the backing guide when I put it into reverse. I'm pretty sure its because I have one connector on the new head unit that isn't connected. The problem is it doesn't seem to fit any of the Outback's connectors. It comes close to one but the pin sizes are different. Do you have any advice?

Hello everyone, can anyone answer, after installing an Android device, is the RCTA (Rear Cross-Traffic Alert) feature still available? An OEM device that indicates (blinks) on the side of the monitor where a vehicle or some movement is indicated.
Thanks for any answer.

Hey All

Looking at installing this in my 2017 outback and curious about 2 things. Did it come with all the harnesses/cables that are required to retain all the original functionality? Or do you need to get some stuff separately. I found a thread on reddit that lists a CANBUS, 6v Backup Camera Adapter, and an optimal USB Adapter.

Also can you get some more robust TPMS on this unit? I notice some of the other units out there are talking about this through the installation of an app, and wanted to make sure it was the same for this one.

Is the app store installed on these so you can install whatever apps you want?

Other then that has anyone compared this to the Idoing unit which seems to look the same but cost a little more?

I just installed one of these and the TPMS part is a let down. Seems like there's no option for TPMS readouts with onboard TPMS unless there's a way to pull serial info from the CANBUS is order to link them to an app. Still worth the upgrade but I still can't believe Subaru manufactured this vehicle without individual tire pressure readouts...

Really appreciate everyone's tips on installing this head unit and getting the backup camera working. Install went without a hitch (except maybe removing the trim from the climate control module to make room for the head unit). For those considering the upgraded version (M6 Pro on Android 12), that's what I ended up purchasing, and it's working great so far.

I'm installing an m700 in a 2016 Outback limited w/ HK sound.

I'm using the canbus RP5-SU-001

There are a number of wires that attached to the original head unit that have no means of attaching the canbus or the head unit. I can't help but think that's not right... Am I missing something? See photo below.

Other than that. Steering wheel buttons seem to work. I have the wires from crutchfield to hook up the backup camera, which I have yet to do.

There shouldn't be that many not connected. I feel like I only had two not connected, the GPS and one other antenna. Did you remove the starlink module? I left the starlink module and the wires connected to that in place as I had read the front speakers wouldn't work if disconnected.

I got the backup cam working thanks to the instructions on the first page! Two questions about the back up cam.

1) can I remove the graphic of the car? All that does is block the view.

2) the turning guide is off. Can it be calibrated to be accurate for the turn radius?

Hey All - I really appreciate this thread and all the support from folks who installed theirs already. I’ve installed a couple of aftermarket radios from Crutchfield in my ’17 Limited and they just didn’t work like I wanted. Excited to order this model (looking at the M6 Pro Plus). One question I haven’t been able to solve - has anyone had success using this radio with XM? Thx!
