hey man, just to make sure, was this the one?
Correct that’s the item I got, I used it on my 2018 Crosstrek then transferred it to the Outback.

Since my Outback has not yet been delivered does it already have holes in the bumper From the factory or is that something the dealer does. If so I’ll ask the dealer to not do anything to the front bumper when my car is delivered, and I’ll order the Grimm Speed unit.

There are little dimples where the holes go and it kind of sticks out where the plate goes.

The dealer drills holes. I told my dealer to not drill at first but had them drill holes later on any way.

My bumper has small dimples and not drilled. Sales told me it was the law but I gave the argument that the law applied to the buyer not the seller. They use self tapping screws and a power screw driver to attach the screws. I asked for and received the two screws along with a plate frame incase I changed my mind. Ordered my Grimmspeed today. Final price, in CA, was less when purchased from GrimmSpeed.com, $88.91, compared to the GrimmSpeed store on Amazon, $90.35, using Prime. This saved a big $1.44 which is more that my S/S will yield in a month (0.45 gal).

To those who may me interested in the Grimm Speed Bracket. I found out they give a discount to veterans just send them a email with proof of service and they will send you a code for a nice discount. I’ll be ordering mine shortly.

Hi all! the Very nice salesman at the dealership had them not drill any holes in mine which is awesome considering just about every single car on the lot usually get them. I was looking at buying the cravenspeed one because of the easy detach feature. My question is, is there anything behind the bumper there that I would need to be concerned about being more exposed to the elements?

Nothing that isn’t already exposed. It screws into the bumper reinforcement which is designed to be exposed to the elements.

I have the cravenspeed platypus. I bought another tow hook cover from the parts department for $3, drilled a hole just large enough for the mounting stud to pass thru (I want to say 3/4"), then used a rubber grommet to seal up the hole. Overkill? Yes. But now I dont have a fist sized hole in my bumper :)

Cool, just wanted to double check, I will probably go ahead and buy it!

That sounds like a good rainy day project, I might have to try that.

I have the Grimmspeed which is using the same connection process. I coated the threads of the tow hook receiver with plumbers silicone grease to reduce possibility of moisture entering the threads. One could also use silicone sealer to keep out the moisture.

Hi folks,

I wanted to give an update on my Grimmspeed relocation install for my 21 Onyx. Grimmspeed didn't have a kit for the Outback, so I just got the kit for the Crosstrek/WRX like everyone else.

I removed the tow cover and drilled 1' inch diameter hole on the cover... I was off by a bit, but not bad for eyeballing it :)

Unfortunately, the bolts were too short and wouldn't fit correctly if I have the tow cover on. If I removed the tow cover, it fits fine. So I went to my local hardware store and picked up a longer bolt and longer spacer.

installation was easy and quick.

I went ahead and purchased 4 tow covers so I can try drill a smaller and cleaner hole. They're $3 each, so it's not the expensive. I hope this helps!

Edit: I wanted to add a photo with the fog lights on. The license plate relocation kit doesn't block the fog lights at all (If placed correctly).

Nicely done. You can also get a rubber grommet to clean up the edges of the hole, as well. Seals it decently well, too

Do you happen to have the part # for the tow cover ? I like your idea. Thanks

I installed the grim speed on my 2020 OB Limited without any fit problem. In other words, it was not necessary to drill any holes or perform any other modifications. I added silicone grease to the threads to keep water out and reduce possibility of corrosion. There was no fit issues.

I used the ideas from Mamberly and CrossCheck in previous posts. Just have to coat all the threads with anti-seize and assemble. I clamped the tow hook cover to a 2x4 and put in the vise. Drilled slowly with a 1" spade bit. Added grommet and viola!! Not just good, but good enough!! Sorry for the shoddy photos..

Nice! I still need to put a grommet on mines, but yours looks good! It's a lot better than having a fist size hole on your front bumper.
