for those in MN that are in the twin Cities and surrounding areas

Alexanders Imports

They did the torque converter on my car and a few other things
Just had them do my front wheel bearings last month and it was only 257.55 for labor. I supplied the bearings at a cost of $312 for both. Job took 2 hours.

Here's one for western New York state, Buffalo - Niagara Falls area.
I would guess that at least 95% of the vehicles they service are Subarus, definitely know their stuff. They also sell used Subarus.

Note that a couple of these come with caveats...

Australia

NSW
Armidale: John Fowler Automotive. Independent workshop that is also the local authorised Subaru service agent (there is no dealership in the area).
Newcastle: Cardiff Automotive is a Subaru wrecker & workshop. Very price focused at last contact, may be your cheapest option for head gasket replacement. Not recommended for general servicing or non-genuine parts for long-term owners due to short-term focus on price.

Victoria
Melbourne (Maribyrnong): Leo's Garage. Owner trained with Subaru in Chile and was shocked by the lack of discipline in dealer workshops (and general lack of honesty in the industry) when he moved to Australia, so started his own business. Factory rally team experience.

Tasmania
Hobart: Autocraft. Motorsport enthusiasts and also good for keeping older Subarus going.

Queensland
Sunshine Coast (Yandina): Sunstate Spares is a Subaru wrecker & workshop that developed a method of replacing Gen 2 (99-03) rear diff cradle bushes cheaply. Cannot comment on anything else they do.

Any good independents in the MD/DC/Northern Virginia area? I saw one listed in Gaithersburg, but that looks more like a tuner shop. Didn't see any listed in DC or NOVA. I'm looking for more routine work like wheel bearing replacement, brakes/bleeding, etc. TIA.

since I cannot go back and edit posts, got to give another prop to Alexanders Import Auto Repair in Minneapolis MN

all 3 engine mounts (I provided OEM parts) for a 2010 Outback 3.6R cost me only $306 dollars installed. Subaru would have charged over $2K for the job. (nearly $1K in parts, the rest labor)

I have a friend who leased 2 Subarus during the pandemic (after hearing how great they are from friends) and has decided to buy them now that their leases are ending. That also means getting away from stealership service.

Can anyone recommend a good/honest independent shop near Lancaster PA. Ideally on the west side, but beggars shouldn't be choosers. He (and his whole family) are not "car" people.

Have you checked our list?

No. I could not find it when I searched. I would have thought this would be a Top Level resource not a thread under General.

Thanks for pointing me to it.

Merging thread into existing recommendations thread; Village subforum is for non-Subaru topics.

I note there are three recommended in Lancaster County, PA.
