Well I mean it looks pretty good, little bits of wear and tear of course. But I wasn't sure if there are any "gotchas" on this model year. I heard something about bad tire wear and something else about the joints/bushings/etc in the suspension... are these items wear items in a 5 yr old Outback..? And is that head gasket issue still a known problem?

Suspensions aren't that great to begin with on 05-09 cars. If the rear shocks aren't toast yet they will be soon, and the OEM replacement isn't much better. Aftermarket has some good choices, read up on the 3rd gen. suspension thread here.

Wheel bearings are another trouble spot, but there is some hope for warranty service on that.

Dunno about head gaskets- a lot of these cars are just starting to get old enough for us to find out.

The '07 shares common problems with the other Gen 3 2.5i's. Mine has 77K miles on it now.

Head gaskets will seap oil. My '07 started seaping at 72k miles. Not enough to drip, but the heads and block have wet spots. Keeping an eye on it, may run forever like that. Or I may change them out when the timing belt is due.

Rear shocks are totally dead at 77K miles. The Gen 3 rear shocks were far too soft from the factory. Gen 2 ('00-'04) rear shocks from KYB are the fix.

Front lower control arm bushings are soft and tear early. Mine are just starting to tear. Not a problem unique to Subaru, had the same problem with my minivan. They use soft, mushy parts for a quiet ride. I would prefer something that lasts longer.

Front inner CV joint boots, seems to be a short life item on all Subarus. Mine are fine at 77K miles. My '99 went 154K miles before the first one split, maybe I'll get lucky again.

Wheel bearings might be a problem, might not be. I know they were a problem on '05 and maybe '06.

Thanks a ton rasterman and ron917. I'll definitely look/feel/listen for those when I walk around it and do the test ride. Yeah I'm familiar with the CV boots and HG, but the suspension stuff is all new to me.

I'm hoping its not a combo of these things that is the reason for the owner selling it... haven't asked yet (although, of course, I'll take most of what the dealer says with a grain of salt). Its a trade-in, so who knows.
