After a software update last October, the Driver Monitoring System started to notify me as “disabled”. It turns on then shuts off. Some days there are no disabled alerts then it will happen. My dealership service department has worked on it three times replacing the head unit and another part. The technician went on a test drive with me and witnessed it. The service reps have scanned me in properly with and without my wearing sunglasses. During a recent road trip from Albuquerque to El Paso, the DMS went disabled only a couple of times. Is the sunlight a factor? My 2024 Outback Touring XT is otherwise perfect.

Sunlight screws with mine more than any other variable. If the sun comes through the side only lighting up one side of my face it will disable every time.
As a general rule I now turn off my DMS every time I see it default to ON. I'm convinced the system as of 2022MY was not ready for prime time, not refined enough. If I could disable it without a warning light on the dash I would.

The pesky DMS is working so much better now, not perfect but better. I traveled to Las Cruces NM last week with no DMS problem. On the return trip to Albuquerque the next morning, about two hours into the drive, a sun ray shone directly on the “bar” above the Infotainment screen and immediately the DMS disabled. After a stop in town, the DMS switched back on and hasn’t disabled once.

For folks who have their system disabling, are your windows tinted? (drivers and passenger side, in particular) - I haven't had any issues thus far with mine disabling - my windows are tinted at 20% all around (done by the dealer before I bought the car - they do most of their cars, it seems) - not advocating for window tint, just curious if it's a factor. (tint is very nice to have in the desert southwest, that's for sure!)

Greetings. It was suggested by a tech guy at my Subaru dealership to create a separate profile scanning myself also wearing sunglasses. So far the DMS has not disabled itself.
He has a client who created three different DMS profiles with eyeglasses, sunglasses, and his cowboy hat.
I may also have the driver and passenger windows tinted too.
