$35 gives you 3 days access to download the Factory Service Manual and a very large assortment of other info you might be interested in.

The FSM downloads as a single file that is fully indexed and linked.

It takes a little while to download, so ahead of time, make sure your computer time-outs are set to long intervals so going to sleep doesn't cause you any problems in the download.

Look to the bottom-left of the linked page at the FAQs and Contact Us....when I downloaded the manual for my car in 2019, the site recommended Internet Explorer as the preferred browser. I don't remember now where I found that info, but those 2 are a good place to start. Most sites are now optimized for Chrome, so you might be fine using that without checking; it's your call.


Some others here will tell you, you can find free downloads if you search the web. I didn't bother. $35 isn't much to get a fully authentic, legal, file (remember, it is copyrighted material).

I bought a PDF service manual for the Gen 5 outback from rock auto. Over 7000 pages.

 

Just wonder who makes it? It it genuine Subaru shop manual, Hayes, All Data?

Weird you didn't just download the factory manual for free. It's posted in several places on this forum. In the long run $25-30 buck isn't much. I'd gladly pay that for a Gen 6 PDF instead of joining STIS and trying to download as much as possible in only 3 days.

 

Also comes up easily in a google search for Subaru FSM (2019 and earlier models only).

All the manuals for the Gen 5 OB? Including all the Electrical/Electronic manuals?

 

I downloaded the 18 and 19 manuals and they were 7434 and 7436 pages including the wiring diagrams towards the end.

 

Thanks. It looks like I need to order one. I like paper manuals but those seem to be a thing of the past.

 

I share your preference for hard copy, but a 7000-page service manual will be over 13" thick, and would be awfully unwieldy unless split into several volumes. I shudder to think what the printing & binding costs would be; most likely far in excess of the $35 pdf download.

 

Ok I ordered one on a USB stick. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll get it in about a week.

I received the USB stick. It seems to work great.

 

I copied it to my hard drive. Access is MUCH faster that way.

 

That makes sense. I tried it on my desktop computer and it worked great. I should download it there. I was also trying to resurrect an older tablet to carry in the car to use with the USB stick, but so far I’m locked out of it and can’t remember my PIN (certainly not the biggest problem facing the world!).

I ordered the Service Manual on USB stick from RockAuto. For some reason I can’t open it right now to send you the link. It seems to be very comprehensive (7,000 pages). It was around $CAD35.

 

OK thanks, I was on the RockAuto site and could not fine a service manual section. under the literature this section it is blank.

 

Maybe they don’t carry it anymore and that’s why I couldn’t open it? It was only a few months ago that I bought mine.
