While blizzard and ice driving are occasional fun when crossing mountain passes, I would not choose to live where it gets snow. My focus is the 99.99% of my driving.
You certainly don’t want winter tires if above 7c constantly, too soft.
Before I bought new tires a few weeks ago, I found this blog very informative on deciding OEM size vs upsizing, wider tires:

“So in short when you fit a wider or more narrow tire, what ultimately changes is the shape of the contact patch. The patch gets wider horizontally and shorter on the vertical direction.”

Basic example, a wider tire contact patch 4”x3” 12sqin = narrow tire 3”x4” 12 sqin. (same vehicle & psi).
