I don't know whether it's avcs and what not. again thanks guys.

What information do you have -- bill of sale, donor VIN, donor ECU?

At the back of the engine, on crankcase casting, top right where it would join with the transmission, might be its serial number. The series/displacement (eg EJ25) might be towards the front, again on the crankcase facing up.
Best though might be if you can get us a good picture of the front/timing cover, side/valve cover, and back.

Sounds like you got a transmission with it? Did you get the rear differential too?

If you bought a 2.0 turbo engine to replace the 2.5, it's simple.

Use your intake and harness. Leave the exhaust AVCS alone. The oil sensors and solenoids will remain unplugged since the USDM 2.5 doesn't have the wiring for the exhaust AVCS. Those are the two that reside at the front bottom of each head.

There is nothing special to do to the 2.0 to make it run. Put in a new timing set, spark plugs and make sure the exhaust AVCS didn't get broken to where it'll cause an oil leak.

You cannot use the dual port headers and twin screw turbo unless you do some modifications for an intercooler and some ROM tuning afterwards, so you will need the 2.5 manifold, up and downpipes along with the 2.5 turbo. The JDM turbo is speed density and does not use AF sensors and the compressor outlet is slightly off to allow a USDM intercooler mounting. A FMIC can be incorporated, but the USDM ECM will still need tweeking to manage the engine and delete the front AF sensors and rear O2.

I've done 2 swaps, EJ20X/Y into 2005 LGT.
Both swaps I used the intake manifold off my USDM LGT.
One swap I used JDM exhaust header and up-pipe, VF38 Twin Scroll turbo, JDM TMIC, JDM HKS downpipe.
The second swap I used original USDM header, up-pipe, VF40 turbo, TMIC, and downpipe.

Both JDM engines were EJ20X. I did not have the cooling port issue. Maybe it's an EJ20Y issue?

added "T"s to the thread title.

(because if this was a N/A thread,...it would be extremely sad to read). :(

many have done this turbo swap though, with great results.

I also am a bit confused about myEJ20...
My boy just bought a 2006 OBXT that has a different motor in it. An EJ20 on the case, and double ACVS (lower cam position sensors left un connected, like I would expect. But the top cam position sensors, both right and left, are 2 pin and not 3. Does this make this an older EJ20 motor, like out of a 2002 wrx? I ask because it looks like the newer EJ20 turbo motors all have 3 pin cam pos. Sensors...or do i have this wrong? Any light you can shed here would be greatly appreciated!

3 pin is needed for 3 pin. 2 pin will only work with 2 pin. the 3 pins are newer. I hope u get things worked out. God speed.
I have some bad news tho. my right cam sprockets shattered and just when I was adjusting the idle. I took the motor out and examined everything. the upper right cam had scaring on it and must have been the culprit. also there is some gray dust in the oilpan. :banghead: :poop:

Going through the same problem myself, I have a 05 lgt and I’m taking out the 2.5t for the 2.0t the ej205, and my problem right now is the cam position sensor, on the ej255 there’s 2 cam position sensors on the back of each head but on the ej205 there’s only one on the right valve cover. Do I just take the sensor out of fhe 255 and but it on the 205?

Ive read all these replies and they are very helpful. I'm not familiar with Japanese cars or foreign cars in general so some of these terms flew right over my head. But I just wanted to make sure so here I am asking a redundant question. I have a 2011 forester x limited. It has the 2.5L N/A but I've been seeing some 2.0L turbo motors on ebay(yes I know ebay. I'm a baller on a budget) for a decent price that say they will "fit". I know I will probably have to do some modifications, BUT if it does work are the modifications too much to deal with? Or are they fairly simple mods? Very loaded I know sorry but any feedback would be great!!
