Hello everyone,
My girlfriend's 2010 Subaru Outback (CVT) started making a creaking/popping noise when making corners, I only notice it at low speeds and tight corners.
The sound definitely comes from the front passenger side wheel and is the worst when making a sharp left turn such as a U-turn. When making such a turn it you can 'feel' the noise as if the wheel is getting stuck on something during the turn. Is this a sign of a CV joint or something worse?
I am planning on taking a look at the CV joint but was just curious if anyone had some experience or insight with this issue, I've read that it could be caused by something much worse like a failed VC.
There was a weird thing that happened prior to us noticing this issue. We parked on a slight hill (facing downwards) and engaged the parking break, then later when we left we disengaged the parking break and shifted into D only to have the car stuck not inching forward as would be expected. We tapped the accelerator and the car sort of lurched forward a bit with a pop noise that I knew couldn't have been good but nothing went wrong after that. The creaking noise was noticed after an hour of freeway driving when we pulled into the parking garage.
