To adjust the headlight low beams down, turn the 8 millimeter hex head clockwise.
To raise them up, turn the hex head counterclockwise.
Don't have a 8 mm socket? A 5/16" socket will also work.
See the attached photos to identify the adjuster locations.

Does the light adjuster work for everyone? I wanted to raise my lights just a little bit and when I turn the adjuster the lights don't move. The screw turns fine but the lights don't move up or down. Is there a secret to this?

I only saw an adjuster similar to the one shown at the beginning of this thread. Unless there are others that I didn't see. I have HID so don't know if that makes a difference.

I don't have the hood of my Outback open to look but I'm turned around by the picture above. The white ring on the left with black thing in the center looks to be the headlight bulb. Pictures for the passenger side make sense, the adjuster is the 8mm with a big flange or washer but at best the driver's side picture is an edge view of this bolt.

FYI: my 2016 was also delivered excessively high. Low beams in my driveway were over the neighbor's fence across the street. Dealer remedied after I looked in manual and online (and missed this thread) and decided dealer owed me.

Just came out of a high end 2013 3.6 Limited for a 2.5 Limited. Low beams adjusted too low and the adjusters are just as shown. I can over drive these lights with no problem so I know the low beam HIDS are too low.
FYI I have yet to see the self adjusting headlights that didn't have adjusters.
My BMW had then in 2007 and there is an adjuster for both vertical and horizontal.

Observations
Why buy a new 17 and trade the 13? Cross path, blind spot, power lift gate (SO has rheumatoid arthritis) and the lane steering too.
Wagner Subaru of Fairborn made us an outstanding deal.

Looking forward to seeing how this 2.5L does. I know this much the steering is a bit twitchy and I had the same issue on the 3.6L 13 until I had it aligned to a slight toe in.

I just knew this information would be around here somewhere. This is saying that this is the low beam adjustment only, but there must be a high beam adjustment also unless it actually does both. Both the low and high beam cut offs are too short.
