Greetings from Prescott, AZ

Took delivery of my Subaru November 1st last year after having factory ordered it July 31st. I've constantly had problems connecting my Android Google Pixel 3 cell phone via BlueTooth. Druing a recent
business trip to Orange County CA I again lost the BlueTooth connection thus during my stay visited two Subaru dealers in Orange County. Both not only had trouble connecting my cell phone but
the service departmens tried their individual cell phones too. Phones were in pairing mode! Maybe 20 minutes my phone would finally connect but later maybe a hour later, the phone would
disconnect

My local Subaru dealer (Findlay) has witnessed my lack of connection problems. The dealer separately called Subaru HQ as well as I did same. So far both have indicated the head in the info screen needs to
be replaced. My Subaru was one of the initial Subarus to come off the line thus a "project" car for the time being. My previous Subaru was an 1994 SVX and only reason I sold it was one of my hobbies
(ToughGuyLevi) required a larger capacity for carring equipment.

Has anyone owning a 2020 Subaru Outback with the large entertainment screen experienced cell phone problems? Subaru HQ has called me several times to discuss the problem but we are playing phone
tag since I'm in Tax Season meeting clients for tax preparation. In conference during prior Subaru phone calls

I also had an SVX! Regarding the android auto - yes many of us are having problems, but I have found a way that has worked to fix mine - it may not work on yours, and might be the same stuff you've already tried.

Subaru replaced March 4th, 2020 the info panel in the center of the dashboard. Seems to pair with my Google Pixel 3 OK now plus pairs other smartphones too for testing purposes. When I press the talk button on the steering wheel so far I don't have to pray to hear OK response. I'll keep you abrest of my cell/Bluetooth connection. ken

Subaru has a TSB for the 2020 Outback infotainment system, but it's not solving everyone's problems. Don't know if it will help yours but if you're taking it to the dealer it's worth asking them about it. TSB 15-261-20

I had same issues with the info screen in my 18 to the point i traded it in on a 2020. I have some random issues where my IPhone 11 Pro just disconnects while plugged up for Apple Car Play. The Driver scanning system will randomly turn it self on even though I have turned it off in the system when i start. I had one instant where i started my car and the screen never loaded. Have not discussed with my dealer yet. May take the car to them next week while i am working from home. If his continues i may trade car in for something else after hat i went through with my 18 Outback

I just bought a 2020 Outback Touring XT and was having Bluetooth and Android Auto setup problems. I ended up replacing my 6' USB C cable for a new 3.3' from Amazon because I wanted to clean things up a little by going to a shorter cable and voilĂ  ,,, my Bluetooth and Android Auto synced right up. I did not expect that at all, and find it hard to believe they could be related since Bluetooth is wireless and should not have anything to do with a USB cable.. They have been working flawlessly, Phone calls over Bluetooth, music, etc. . ever since. Android Auto worked with the 6' cable but I kept seeing little error messages popping up occasionally on the phone.
I should note that My 2018 Outback Limited was having Bluetooth connectivity issues ( same phone, same cable, same problem ) and I was suspecting it had been my phone that was the problem.

Cables apparently matter. Hope this helps out and good luck.

Was out for an extended drive this weekend, in cell range, out of cell range, multiple car starting and stopping, plugging in and unplugging the cable and never had a Bluetooth or Android auto issue since going to the new cable. I am calling my issue solved...

I should also note, I always connect up my USB Cable because Subaru has not enabled wireless Android Auto ( not sure if they are planning on it either ). Bluetooth would usually flake out when I tried to make or take a call and I had not put two and two together. Android Auto must have been trying to resync or initialize through Bluetooth as part of its normal startup process.

I am having the same issue with my 2020 Outback XT Touring and my Android LG V30. The Bluetooth drops out completely sometimes, both while I am on the phone or while I am listening to something streaming through the phone. Then, it takes numerous attempts to reestablish the Bluetooth connection.

I was in the Subaru dealer earlier this week to have routine maintenance and I mentioned all this to them. The told me that they had an update to the electronics and screen function software. but then they could not get it to install. After three hours of getting errors during the installation, I took the car home without any update. The Bluetooth then dropped out again this morning.

Very frustrating!

My Outback did an OTA upgrade of the software this week to version 020-704, and I had every hope that the Bluetooth issues would be fixed in the upgrade. They were not. My Bluetooth has randomly disconnected on me twice in the last three days. Ii is really unacceptable that Subaru cannot fix this problem. It can't be that hard.

I have a 2020 Subaru outback 2.5 I limited with large entertainment system screen. Of late if somebody calls me the phone does not ring through the car it only rings on the cell phone. But it definitely indicates on the screen that somebody is calling. I can answer the cell phone on the steering wheel with no difficulty. I can also make a telephone call using the voice command button, and disconnect the call via the steering wheel. Strangely when I connect my cell phone with Apple CarPlay when someone calls the telephone rings through the car. Have an appointment scheduled on Wednesday with SUBARU to look at the problem. SUBARU has spoken to the technical department who indicates that there is a patch and two updates to the head unit. They are hoping this will fix the problem. Has anyone experienced the same problem? If so any ideas on how it was repaired or how you fixed the problem. In addition I have an Apple 8+ phone and it has the current update installed. Appreciate any of your advice

Hi and I had the same problem with MUTE yet my cell phone sound was normal. HERE'S the FIX at least it worked for my Google Pixel 3. I deleted my Pixel 3 from my 2020 Subaru Outback XT. Once I did this then add my Pixel 3 cell phone, all returned to normal. I called Prescott Findlay Subaru giving my service advisor Robert Frank letting him know about the Software bug I experienced and fixed. Yet I still have disconnect BlueTooth problems the lastest software update received earlier this week is supposed to fix. Interesting on my car's sunvisor is a BlueAnt S4 BlueTooth device I purchased in 2010. The reason it "sits" on my sunvisor is when I'm in a conversation and my Subaru software decides to disconnect my cell phone, I have my backup which unfortuneately I use too frequently. I immediately call friends/clients back informing them it wasn't intenstional we were cut off explaining my car's BlueTooth problem. The disconnect problems happens also in populated areas whether I'm in Prescott, AZ or Villa Park,CA. My BlueAnt S4 has NEVER disconnected several of my cells phones I've owned since purchasing my BlueAnt S4 10 years ago. Try deleting you cell and connecting! It worked for me!! Ken

One of the added features of the car's new software update is you can change the Bluetooth name of the car. So, I took your suggestion and deleted my phone from the current car Bluetooth. I then renamed the car using this new software feature; and then reconnected the phone. I'll let you know if I continue to have disconnect problems. Thanks for the suggestion!

Great and I know one can change Bluetooth name of the car. I was working to fix MUTE problem software I received a week ago Thursday that affected my cell phone functioning properly. I now have stopped automatic updates in the Subaru software since the MUTE problem software was downloaded without my knowledge. No mas auto downloads - Ken

I purchased a 2020 Outback Touring one week ago. The car says bluetooth connection lost at some point, everytime I drive. This is so frustrating that I have buyers remorse!

Went to the dealer again a couple weeks ago and got the recall update to the software installed. My Outback now has version F11GHM042-380. The good news is that they moved the button to turn off Auto Start-Stop to the home screen, so now you can turn it off as soon as you get in the car without going to any other menus. I was hoping that the software update would also have addressed the Bluetooth connection issue and some of the other complaints I have had (screens resetting each time you turn off the car, random system reboots while you are driving). No such luck! My Bluetooth has dropped out twice now since the update. The latest was this week while I was in the middle of a phone call.

Someone on one of the other threads that I follow in this forum gave me the email address at Subaru. I am going to send them a message this weekend. I have had my car for 14 months now and my level of tolerance is now exceeded.

I have had my Outback Touring since June last year. Only in last couple weeks, same issue. Phone shows connected, call placed but not really connected although indicates call in progress. Only have 8k miles so car not used much.
