I have seen discussions of gas mileage buried in other threads but nothing dedicated exclusively to real world experience.

Please post your engine, trim level, and mileage.

Looked for this on fueleconomy.gov but as of yet no postings.

Thanks

On our first two fill ups we have gotten 30.8 and 28.7 mpg. Overall has been 29.8mpg so far. Can update this as we go, but the weather is such we are always on the motorcycle.

This driving is about 95% on two lane up country mountain roads, but taking it pretty easy due to raod and traffic conditions. Did go to Sacramento and drive on the freeway for about 10 miles total.

We maintain a log of all the gas we put in the car and as I said, can report more as we go.

A side note our accumulated MPG AVG on the cars display is showing 29.3, which I was very surprised at, considering the way they car computes MPG.

I've been getting an avg of 22-23 mpg, as my commute involves about 15 miles of hwy and then 3 miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic. That 3 miles just kills the average. I'm expecting upper 20's for the interstate. Also, after 3 fill-ups, the readout is consistently 1 mpg higher than I calculate. I have a mostly-interstate road trip next weekend, so we'll see how that goes.

Bham Subie--Which transmission do you have on your new Outback?

Is it a MT 4 cylinder or a CVT 4 cylinder?

How can we compare or evaluate your gas mileage if we don't know the details on your Outback's powertrain?
Bham has a CVT, I searched his previous posts ;)

3.6R Limited

Approaching my first 1,000 miles (tonight going home), had 3 fill-ups...

Gas Cubby on the iPhone is showing an average of 21.9 mpg..
The Subaru's trip "computer" is showing 23.5 mpg..

For each fill-up I have noticed the Subaru's computer has calculated the mpg higher, normally about .5 to .7 mpg higher then I do by "hand"... Anyone else notice a difference?

Right Myllari - CVT. I'll have to add it to my profile.

Heyandy - mine reads a bit higher as well than what I calculate by hand. I put +1 mpg in my post above, but its actually varied from +.6 to +1 mpg.

Note - my mpg seems to have improved a bit since upping the tire pressure to 35psi from the 30psi that the dealer had them at.
