My Android Auto wowe's continue, or is it my Samsung A53 phone or is it my 2023 subaru legacy.

AA It shows me my phone contacts etc. Took place music from my phone. Whereas I used to say call dad and it would place the call it no longer does that. If I go to the phonebook and press the icon to call my dad, it connects fine.He is there but he cannot hear me. . A short push to talk to engage the Subaru software and I say call somebody or tell me where the nearest gas station is....also galils. t also doesn't hear me. It seems as though the mic has been disconnected.

Any ideas?

That's a nice suggestion. Can you tell me how to unmute it. Is there's some hidden setting that says mute the phone to the car? FYI if I just disconnect the phone from the car and use the phone alone to make a call , people have no issues hearing whatsoever.

Also I had my dad pair his iphone to the car today. He called myself with his phone connected to the car.As was the case with my phone he could hear me speaking Through the car speakers but I could not hear him.

Before I do as you suggested let me clarify and you tell me if it's safe to try what you suggested....

I get in the car and start it, android auto automaticly connects within a few seconds.

Under normal conditions I would press and hold the push to talk button till it beeped. I would say: call Dad. A call to dad would be made. When he answered, I would hear him through the car's speakers and he me through the cars microphone.
Under normal conditions I would again press to push the talk until it till it beeped and I might say: tell me how to get to Lowes and android auto would pop up with directions to Lowes.

For several days now it's not working properly. I'll get in the car and android auto connects. I might say: call dad... Nothing happens. On screen it says: please say a command. I'll repeat the command many times....it never hears me and eventually times out. Now If I click the phone icon in Android Auto and choose a contact from my list....a call is made.I can hear the people answer the phone through my car speakers... I can hear them talk but they cannot hear me. If I disconnect Android Auto or on my cell phone press the speakerphone ... now I hear them in my phone and they can hear me through my cell phone.

In similar fashion, Connected to Android Auto, pressing push to talk and saying: tell me how to get to Lowe's... It fails to ever hear me. If I pick up my cell phone , go to google , press the microphone and say tell me how to get to lowe's ...directions pop up on the phone and on android auto And if I click start ..directions appear on android auto And I could hear the directions through my car's speakers.

It's as though the mic in the car does not work.

I think I said earlier that we connected my dad's iPhone to my car and it behaves in similar fashion. In other words when issuing voice command it's as though android auto fails to hear what I am saying. FYI -I have a samsung A53 phone.

Although I never use this if I press the push to talk button and let go quickly. The subaru car asks me for a command it never hears me say anything either.

This all seems to have happened around the time the rear USB port in the center console backseat became loose and fails to work.I'm not sure if it's a coincidence. This is why I thought perhaps a fuse may have blown. But I have been unable to determine which fuse to check. Please note though that the front USB works fine.I tested it today.

So I am still willing to try what you
Proposed earlier if you can give me a little detail and if there's no chance of me screwing something up as the car only has 12000 miles on it.

Perhaps it's best if I just take it into the dealer. I hate to be charged a $178 service fee for them to tell me it's my phone or a fuse... Though I am hoping they will fix that.Rear USB port under my thirty six thousand mile warranty.

You can't break anything. The worst option in the dealership menu is to reset the headunit to factory which would amount to losing your saved radio stations and paired Bluetooth devices.

And yes, for anything not working in general, you are always within your rights to claim a warranty fix on it.

But run the mic diagnostic yourself first. It will only take a minute or two of your time.

Also, try someone else's phone while you're at it.

Cool, so it is the car then!

NG ("Not Good") in this case simply indicates whether it not it can detect a device there. It's not necessarily a bad fuse. In this case we can see that it can detect the mic, for example, but it's seemingly not processing anything from it.

Another thing to try (again, just to rule out basic technology hiccups) is to simply reboot the entire headunit. You can do that by simply holding down the volume knob for a full ten seconds until you see the display and the backlit buttons blink, followed by the Starlink logo a couple of seconds later). Press the knob again to wake up the screen after the logo disappears and reconnect your phone and do one last mic test.

Finally, connect someone else's phone to test because Subaru WILL ask you if you did that (and they will test that themselves with their own personal phones - last thing you want is for it to suddenly work for them), and then go and make your warranty claim with Subaru Service.

Held button for 10s.screen went dark, it said words to the effect of press again to turn back on...kept pressing....eventually screen lit up with some little green message I get every morning when I start the car...not sure I ever read it...lol. I never saw starlink. Did it reboot?

Anyway, I tried a call and it HEARD me ask! Trouble was it did not know the contact...I deleted my phone and re paired it.I tried again...it worked! Then i had to run into work...Hopefully still working later.

Oh yea...I tried the rear usb again....stil not working so I guess that is the warranty call.

No idea how this all happened and if I successfully rebooted the sucker and that fixed the mic or of it just happened to start to work. Scary how this stuff happens!

Well eight hours later i'm back to my car and it doesn't work again. I pulled over in a parking lot, attempted to again reboot the head unit, disconnect my phone and re pair it. It again worked. When I got home I shut the car and 5 minutes later I restarted the car. and it still worked so now.I'm gonna leave the car sit for a few hours and see if it continues to work or if maybe something's happening over time. What a weird situation.

Can I do the updates myself..... Also I did stumble across another solution.Someone suggested starting the car up, pressing the SOS button.Waiting for Starling to connect then hanging up, then trying the Mic and yes, that worked too but a pain to do that each and I guess after three years the starlink thing goes away so I guess I have to get to the dealership.

As I recall and may have posted above...the solution was them upgrading my software and or replacing a fuse for my USB port. Prior to that, I was able to get the mic working by pressing the SOS button then cancelling that. Then the mic worked fine with the phone and Android Auto until I shut the car off.
