I want to make a custom intake for my subaru but i'm not sure what the diameter is and I don't want to mess up the measurement or something, this would be for the exterior of the throttle body by the way.

Measure the inlet to the plastic air box. I'll guess and see how close... 2.75" id.

If I were to attempt to answer the question, I would be doing exactly as @stevenva suggests - just throw a ruler across it and measure directly. Which you can also do yourself, of course.

And note if the purpose of this is to mount some custom air filter that came with claims to increase engine performance, you're going to be disappointed in the outcome. I'm assuming you've got the 2.5i NA engine (and please - fill out your details!), and it's difficult to cause any change to the performance on the induction side, short of turbocharging. What you got from the factory is pretty much optimized already.

For what it's worth . . .

. . . the exterior of the throttle body . . ..
The inlet fitting of the throttle body, where the clamp is positioned, is 70.3 mm. (This is a 2006 2.5 Legacy throttle body.)

However, there's a lip at the end of the fitting that doesn't go all the way around; it covers about 270 degrees. The lip itself is about 0.9 mm in height.
