Just got the letter from Subaru of America. Want to know if anyone else took their Outbacks in and they actually got the replacement done by the dealer.

Mentioned this in another thread…

I brought mine in 2 weeks ago. Took a couple of hours for them to return my car to me. My car was OK and did not have any of the damaged they were looking for.

I did have an issue with auto start stop eliminator device not working after the this is known and it is because the software that gets updated not fully resetting something when they do the work. Disconnecting the battery for a few seconds and reconnecting fixed that issue With the eliminator.

Took mine in today for the recall - looks like I'm getting a new transmission installed sometime next week. (2020 Onyx) I started to have a very slight trans slip and chirp sound on the highway which prompted me to go to Subaru.

I had my 2020 Outback serviced last week under the WRK21 recall. It took several hours and I was told that no indication of chain damage was found. A borescope has to be used to inspect for possible damage. The fix to the problem appears to be entirely a reprogramming of the transmission. Mine was the third vehicle at this dealership to have had the recall. If anyone else has had it done to their Outback, I 'd be interested in hearing whether they noticed any transmission behavior changes afterwards. I'm the kind of driver (a geek LOL) who pays attention to small changes in my devices and I think I may have noticed some upshift changes, but it could also just be my imagination.
Just picked up our 2020 Outback yesterday from the dealership do to the transmission recall. They replaced the transmission and it failed the same evening on a busy highway at night in the rain. Transmission started slipping and making noise. We were able to pull off onto the right shoulder of the highway, car smoking, warning lights came on and car became inoperable. Car was towed into dealership and we were given a loner, now waiting for the result.

Hmmm, that sounds like operator error on the part of the dealer, as in not servicing the new transmission with the proper amount or type of fluid. It is possible that the new transmission is defective, so it will be interesting to see what the dealer finds.

Myself and many others have had transmissions replaced under warranty with no issues, so hopefully the third time will be the charm for you. Good luck!

I’m really despondent about Subaru with this issue. My wife’s 2020 Onyx XT is now at the dealer waiting for clutch pack parts with no loaner available. We had been going to the dealer since June with this shuddering while turning and accelerating. Every time they said that the tests specified by the TSB were not identifying the problem. Until last week. The problem progressed from only while the engine and drivetrain were cold to all the time. My wife is especially upset in not having a loaner available, we were told that the repair could take several weeks. I’m assuming they don’t want us driving it because then more than the clutch pack will have to be replaced. Our sales lady came out to offer a trade-in deal for a new car, which my wife is considering. But I’m leery of another CVT vehicle of any kind.

I dropped my 2020 Limited XT off for the recall service 2 weeks ago and it does need the transmission replaced. Still waiting on an ETA and driving a loaner Forrester in the meantime. I hadn't noticed any issues, but I guess there were some.

Offer a "Trade In"? Horsehockey- they should be offering a replacement under the Lemon Law if you were having persistent issues that they knew about.

I’m not certain how successful that would be but I certainly am frustrated enough to consider it. The ironic thing is I was told that if the entire transmission were being replaced it would only would be a few weeks, Subaru is well stocked with transmissions. But the clutch pack won’t be available till late January. She does now have a loaner vehicle, an identical 2020 Outback Onyx XT. I did ask if the transmission had been repaired, they kinda chuckled.

At least you got a loaner. We are still waiting with no time frame as to when one will be available nor a time frame for the parts they need to do the repair.
Seriously! I would be pretty annoyed if this was going on as long as it has been and I didn't have a car to drive. As it stands, I want the dealer to take all the time they need to do the job right. My kids do make fun of me for driving the Forrester, though. They call it an old lady car.

She did get a loaner yesterday, an identical Onyx XT but white instead of her black one. She says it drives like hers used to. She’s still considering whether she wants a new one or not, I think I could push Subaru for an additional discount or some type of loyalty bonus for the purchase of a new one. But for now she’ll be driving this XT until next year it looks like.

Got my car back on Friday and the folks at the dealer said that if I had to pay for the service it would have been $11,000

They also said that it was a fairly low % of vehicles that needed fixing
