nice - no longer on the REI site... :(

Yeah I think REI is getting out of that game (could be wrong) they have NO awnings on their website.

I ended up getting the Thule/Tepui Overcast awning at REI using the spring sale discount and dividend. I just mounted it up yesterday and haven't had a chance to deploy it yet. I used the OEM cross bars with the rear bar moved to the further back position. So far on a test drive, it seems solid. I'll report back when I have a chance to open it up. Here's a couple of shots...
Looks like the Tepui will work well for yopu. I considered this awning but the minimum spacing for the cross bars (36") requires moving the rear crossbar to the rear position. If I do that my Yakima Skybox would not fit. I've decided on a Yakima Slim Shady awning and have one on order.

Newsubieowner, all of the tools needed to mount the awning are included with it as well. Just wanted to give you a tip that they also include/hide a 10mm ratchet wrench that is stored inside the awning with the guyline. They include a crummy little one to get the job done with the rest of the hardware, but there’s a much nicer one hidden in the awning itself - they should have put it with the rest of the install equipment. Alternatively, you could use a deep socket to make it easier. This is specifically for the bolts that mount the holds to the crossbars. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it :) Hopefully this helps.

That's great news! I had ordered the awning then I started freaking out trying to figure out how I was going to mount it to my rails haha. Thanks for the heads up. Oh, does it come with tie down (guy lines) to anchor it to the ground? I may need to figure out a solution for when I am parked on asphalt and can't put stakes in the ground.

I'm interested in an awning but have not decided on a particular model. I'm looking at any possibilities. My main desire is to be able to attach the awning to my stock roof rack.
After reading through all the responses on this thread, other threads and considering the various options I decided on a Yakima Slim Shady 6.5' Awning. Thanks to all who provided comments and info. My primary "want" in the awning mount was to be able to fix it to the OEM crossbars without modifying the crossbars or the awning mounts. I originally ordered the awning through E-Trailer with the expected delivery date of April 15. But that was pushed back to mid July. I canceled that order and found REI now had them in stock. Received my awning in 5 days and set it up in my yard for a trial run.

The awning takes very little space on the crossbars and leaves plenty of room for my Yakima Skybox.

The guy ropes were included and the provided stacks appear strong and long enough provide a good anchor. I am concerned that the holes on the awning cross piece will wear and eventually cut the nylon rope. I purchased some S-Hooks to use instead of the loop of rope provided. The awning just touches my head at the vehicle end. Setting the poles a little high provides enough headroom for me at 6' 0". Setup and take down was easy and fairly quick.

As I mentioned previously this awning attached easily to the OEM crossbars. The awning also comes with adapters so the mounts will work well with round crossbars. The mounts are heavy and provide a firm fit.

Here's one desert camp that will benefit from the awning.

Curious... Do the clamps modify in a way that you can attach it to a roof basket? I thought I saw it did. Getting ready to buy it if so seeing they have a 20% off coming up soon!

The clamps can attach to round or oval crossbars. There is a second insert for the round bars. If your roof basket has either round or oval attachment points the awning should attach with no problems.

Can I ask for the clamp name/link?

Thanks, I think i found them here https://www.etrailer.com/question-286824.html and nice option for the OB bars vs having to put our cargo basket on and then mount our awning to that. BUT seems like everyone is out of stock, including Yakima. Dang it as this would be the perfect solution for me.

Yep, those are the mounts that came with my Slim Shay Awning, minus the "eTrailer" stickers. I put them on my standard cross bars.
I also had the "out of stock" problem. My advice is to keep searching sites until you find what you're looking for in stock. Also contact Customer Service at Yakima. Good luck!

Guess what now shows in stock and mid-Sept ship date? :) I ordered my pair today!
