I replaced my driver's side front axle and seal due to a bad CV joint. The seal leaked after the replacement, thinking that I didn't get the seal seated all the way I tried replacing it again. I still have the leak. I am thinking that I might be pressing it in too far.

Is possible to press it in too deep?

Did you use the correct seal for that side of the gearbox?

There are two different CV shaft oil seals.

One for the drivers side and a different one for the passenger side.

If you install the passenger side seal in the drivers side (or vice versa) the oil will be pumped out through the seal.

I had something that was the correct diameter it just didn't have a stop on it. Here is a good writeup on changing it.
Subaru front axle seal replacement! No need for more leaks, the media has plenty.. — Blingstrom

I didn't remove the strut bolts only the ball joint bolt and used a pry bar to remove it from the lower control arm. Here is a good Youtube on the procedure.

Good Luck!
Thanks, I have watched this video over and over, looks awesome but it is the installation tool that has me wondering. Probably something like this: Amazon.com
