Biggest tires?

I'm hoping someone knows the answer to this after their experience:

What are the biggest tires I can put on my 99 outback without rubbing after completing my 2 inch lift?

Keep in mind there are two approaches to this better tires vs bigger and your impact on your gear ratio ie low end which is already lacking in the Subaru if your into pretty rugged trail work.

If you do pretty rough rugged steep trail trips your better off lifting the car some for gained entry and departure clearance #1 issue for Subarus not counting the lack of a low gear. Then running stock sized tires with really tough good tread this way your not having a negative impact on your what lower gearing you do have.

If your not doing steep rugged stuff that pushes the limits of the gearing that much then going larger tires isn't as much of a big deal.

There are lots of variables here, including wheel offset, shape of tire, and exact lift details.
I recently installed 215/65-16 Grabber AT2 tires (27") on my 97 OB along with a 1 1/4 f/ 1 3/8 r Subtle kit. No trimming, no rubbing - but it comes close. I am using 48 offset wheels from an '03 OB and KYBs for my chassis.
If you are willing to have a little rub, or trim a bit, you might get 28" or so under it. However, some Foz struts have a lower spring seat in the rear struts, and 28" tires might not fit depending on tire shape and wheel offset.
