FWIW...Every time I’ve had my tranny oil replaced they have done the relearn. don’t see why it’s needed if it’s only the tranny pan that is drained but hey...I’m no mechanic.

 

I believe you can do it with Free SSM, not sure..Even if you can you need access to a level surface and 4 jack stands or a lift. Also have to make sure that the rear parking brake is properly adjusted so it will keep the rear wheels from moving when applied (part of the procedure)

 

There seems to be some confusion here. Is a relearn different than a reset?

This Reset CVT learning thread doesn't say you have to jack it up. It's literally just disconnecting the battery, draining the electrical, and turning the key from off to on, and turning on the car.

 

 

yes the car has to be off the ground and parking brake set to do a relearn on transmission. to clear the adaptive data no it does not. but any time you make a repair you need to clear the data and then do a relearn.

 

To clear the data is scanner required to clear codes before relearn

Is the battery always disconnected during this procedure? Reason I ask is the dealer just changed my trans fluid and my clock and all are unchanged. I was told I'd have the re-learning too, but see no difference in that, or the way the car drives.

 

any time you work on a car's electrical system, battery should be disconnected. to do fluid changes it is not necessary to disconnect battery.

also part of the battery disconnect is to write down any presets before disconnecting and and reset the clock and reprogram the presets after reconnecting the battery.
