Can you do a cvt relearn yourself, or do you need to go to a dealer to do it?

I came across this thread in the gen5 forum: Reset CVT learning and it seems like you can perform the relearn yourself, however, I vaguely remember seeing somewhere else that a relearn has to be performed by the dealer.

Can anyone confirm this or share experience with doing a relearn on the gen4 cvt's? I'm almost positive my mechanic forgot to do a relearn after replacing my fluid earlier this year, resulting in my shifting issues.

FWIW...Every time I’ve had my tranny oil replaced they have done the relearn. don’t see why it’s needed if it’s only the tranny pan that is drained but hey...I’m no mechanic.

any time you work on a car's electrical system, battery should be disconnected. to do fluid changes it is not necessary to disconnect battery.

also part of the battery disconnect is to write down any presets before disconnecting and and reset the clock and reprogram the presets after reconnecting the battery.
