Center Console dog claw saver?

Okay, so when our dog gets into the Scooby he puts his paws/claws on the center console before sitting down in the back seat. I do not want to discuss where you think he should ride. In addition I do not want to discuss training him not to do that; vehicle was bought for him as much as for me.

How can I protect the console/arm rest? It has a couple of nail depressions but no tears as of yet. In my head I envision a neoprene cover similar to the seat covers we have.

Thoughts from the creative group?

I share your pain. I learned a while ago, for the sake of my own sanity, I just carry around several towels and cheap throw blankets for when my dogs (2 pugs and 1 dane) ride in my car. My car's interior is coated with cheapy target towels and freebie blankets until I actually have to carry passengers, LOL.

How often do your dogs ride with you? If not often, I'd just use a towel or something similar to set over the console. If very often, I'd probably seek the more "permanent" solution you seem to be alluding to.

I had a custom sheepskin cover made for my last car. It worked but the dog tore up everything else so now he gets to ride in the back. Just tired of the hair and damage not to mention the dog slobber on every window.

With three dogs...I know what you mean...and this is what you need.

Amazon.com: Kyjen Outward Hound Auto Front Seat Barrier Black: Kitchen & Dining

It will go a long way to solving all your doggy vs arm wrest battles....and the price is right! Our dogs get seat belted in, but just in case this thing comes in very handy.

...and problemchild200...dog slobber just adds character to the car. :)

My first vehicle with a console was my '97 Jeep Wrangler. Thus began the tradition of pooch paws leaving their marks. Today, with two dogs, one is in the passenger seat, the other in back on the folded-down seat. That one always comes up to see how things are going, and guess where the paws go. Yup, the tradition continues!

We use a wire dog barrier mounted just behind the front seats. It keeps the dogs in the cargo area and prevents them from getting to the driver or front-seat passenger. The second row seating stays folded down flat so the dogs have more room. Plenty of blankets back there to protect the various surfaces.

I keep on telling myself that I'm going to replace all of the fake plastic wood on my OB Limited with the genuine article; this console cover will be one of them. I can of course select a hardwood that's tougher than anything in the car that can touch it, such as the claws you see on the guy in my avatar.

My current favorite finish is a simple buffing and carnuba wax; this is nontoxic and therefore best for my present customer base (two young grandsons). See example below; the head on Mr. T. Rex is Jatoba, which is pretty hard.

Problem is, my anal side insists it will all have to match, and you can't ever match genuine polished wood to plastic. So this will be an all or nothing proposal, and the door panels and other parts have a lot more complex shape to them than this cover. Sigh.
