All the window switches should light up.

 

Can anyone else confirm this? I wonder why mine don't if it is supposed to be standard on the premium.

EDIT: I just looked at that cars101 site and it does say that illuminated window switches should be everywhere. Is there official info from subaru somewhere stating that too? I just sent our salesman an email about it.

The window switches all light up in my car, but only the drivers side lock switch lights up for me (it's a Legacy, but should be the same as the Outback) - easiest thing to do is go to the dealer and sit in another premium and see if they light up or not.

 

All of our window switches definitely light up when the ignition is on. I've noticed that.

I just noticed tonight that the power door lock switch on the driver side also illuminates, but the passenger side does not. I did find this thread: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/104-gen-4-2010-present/41236-door-lock-light-passenger-side.html so I assume that's normal.

 

I am wondering how on earth something like that gets left out. As far as I can tell everything else is there, but I just noticed the lights (or lack thereof) tonight and we just picked up the car on Monday.

Well hopefully our dealer will straighten it out.

 

Even more interesting, on my 2011 only the LOCK side of the door lock switch lights up, the unlock side is dark. I believe all the window switches are lit.

Would be interesting to see if the passenger side lock button lights up on the 2014.

 

Other annoying things...

Door window lockout button does not light up...like I only need to lock my kids out from playing with windows in the daytime??

Door lock/unlock button does not light up with the dome lights. If I open my door in the dark and need to unlock the remaining doors for my passengers....I can't find the button! This would be easily solved by having the headlights/dashlights come on when you unlock the car, or of course wiring a circuit to the door light switch power.

Door window lockout button locks the driver out too! This makes no sense to me. In all other cars I have owned it locks out the other 3 doors but the driver retains control. Not so in Subaru.

Yup, I'm dumfounded by this fact. In my Ram the window lockout switch even turns the other window control lights OFF when you lock them out. Pretty nice little touch.

 

On my 2013 both lock and unlock on driver side switch light up.

 

The Lock switch on the 2014 passenger door does not light up. Interestingly, however, it has the same part number as the power lock switch on the driver door that DOES light up. Next time I have the door panels off, I'm going to investigate further. Would be nice to be fully lit on both sides.

 

On my '14 Limited, the driver's side window lock button doesn't light up, but both sides of the 'lock/unlock all doors' switch do.

On the passenger side, the window up-down switch lights up, but not the lock button. Go figure.

 

Can I just add in this gripe that, along with the idiotic lighting scheme in the buttons, why are there no lock/unlock buttons for the rear? 2 years later I still miss some of the features of my much cheaper Volkswagen Golf (cooled glovebox, auto up/down on all windows, etc). Oh well

 

Well my wife took the car to the dealer today and now I feel like an idiot, but I am not sure I would ever have guessed it (or maybe it is in the manual I haven't looked at yet).

Anyway, the were technically working the whole time. Come to find out the lights are smarter than I would have thought. If you hit the window lock button, it actually disables all of the lights other than the drivers one since that is the only one that will work. If you unlock the windows, all the lights work. We typically lock the windows because our kids like to play with the window switched even though we tell them not to.

 

I THINK this is because "locking" the windows actually removes power from the window circuits for those doors. That would also explain the inability to use even the driver's door switches to operate anything but the driver's window.

 

I've got a 2011 OB 6MT Base model and only the driver's side window button, and the lock/unlock light up. None of the switches on the other three doors light up. I guess they cheaped out on the base model.

 

I went to the deal with this issue when I got my Limited 2013 last December - and they confirmed it was like the others. Very strange they all dont just light - but thats the way they were.

 

I was wondering about the window switches not being lit the other evening when driving my wife's 2017 Touring model. I was going to have the dealer look at the "problem" at the next service in a few weeks. Low and behold, my wife had pushed the lock out for the passenger windows, which removes power to those switches and their lights. Unlock the passenger windows and the lights came back on. Sweet!
