Hey everyone I hope this is the right place to post this I finally bought my dream car a 2014 Subaru outback and after driving it a whole week My dashboard lit up like Christmas tree lights As the title States the flashing brake light and oil temperature light and solid traction control in the middle of the dash. Has not affected drivability or anything else the dealership didn't pull any codes and when I changed A light bulb that was out on my headlight the problem went away but now it's back and I have nothing out as far as I can tell other than my horn. Some of the things that don't work with flashing lights is Cruise control and paddle shifters but when it worked again after the bulb everything was fine. I am stumped and wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions thanks in advance

When the AT Temp flashes, there's a problem. There are codes stores on the TCM. You can't scan the ECM and see TCM codes. And a lot of times you will not see a P0700 in the ECM indicating a code stored in the TCM.

Depending on the flash frequency, it could be as simple as a relearn is needed to a valve body issue. My money is in a valve body issue. I see it a lot.

Get the TCM scanned and post up the code(s). Even if the light was out, the TCM stores "old" and "older" codes in history.

Hello! I just got my 2013 Outback scanned bc of flashing at oil temp, solid check engine, solid VDC, and flashing brake lights came on while driving. These are the codes it threw:

P0420- stored
P0700- stored
P2762- stored
P0420- pending
P0700- permanent
P2762- permanent
P2762- OEM
C0045
C0042

My local Subaru dealership can’t get me in until a week and a half from now. Am I better off taking this info to my engine guy or transmission guy?

Something isn't right.

An airbag issue would light up the air bag light. Is it on?

How old is the battery?
Are all the grounds clean?
I agree that's why I'm trying to reach out to someone who might have had this issue I have only owned the car less than a week and this started up two days ago I got home from the store everything was running fine then shut it off I came out two or three hours later and suddenly flashing lights and the solid one light again everything still drives and runs like it has no issues but I took it to the dealer and they are stumped because there's no codes and no the airbag light is not on I will try to take it down to my father's auto shop and try using their scan tool maybe the dealership doesn't know what it's doing?

The battery does look like a few years old but the grounds are cleaned and it's holding its charge if I leave the lights on for little bit it does seem to drain it substantially though and it'll take longer to start and stumble until it seems to be charged again

The airbag light is not on only thing that would coincide with that is the no horn issue that started at the same time as all this

Does your dad have a scan tool to scan ALL the modules in the car? If he does, can you post all the codes and whether the system is showing "present", "old", or "older".

Reason being is the C0045. That's a communication code and this car has high speed and low speed CAN networks.

The transfer solenoid may or may not be a problem. The activity of the solenoid relies on engine parameters and data from the VDCCM/ABS.

That was all the codes can saiys no codes present. Our guess is tcm may be malfunctioning

C0045
This one is a tricky code and you need to verify the issue with the transfer solenoid first. If it is shorted, this code will pop up since a short will affect communications. Once the harness/solenoid/valve body issue is corrected, then you go to the TCM and VDCCM to check for the code activation. You have to correct the transmission first, then clear ALL the codes in every module with the scan tool. Then turn the key off and back on after 10-15 seconds, start it and check for codes in all the modules.

IF the C0045 comes up without any other code, then follow this:

491733

If you need VDCCM to TCM communication circuits, I'll get those.

The TCM won't fail. Unless someone shorts out the circuit board.

Go through the diag posted above and check that there is fluid in it. The correct fluid, not some universal crap. The universal cvt fluids cause problems. This year model takes specific cvt fluid. If it's a tr580 the parts stores and lube joints WILL NOT have it. Subaru built the very first cvt, trust them when they say, "Using a fluid other than specified will cause damage.".

For AT oil temp and Brake dash lights flashing and solid VDC light lite try turning the key to the ON position, hold your foot on the brake pedal and pull out the emergency brake pull on the dash near your left knee. Same procedure in the instructions printed under it. Driving with the emergency brake on puts a stress on your CVT.

I just had the same thing. All lights came on at the same time, the brake light and cruise control blinking, traction control and engine light on solid, and the AT oil temp light would come on after a while, blinking as well. The codes would come back either just the solenoid, except today, I got a number of codes. Again, it would drive normal until the AT oil temp came on, but even before it all turned on, sometimes I would accelerate and it wouldn't change gears until I let off the accelerator. So the census is, changing the transmission solenoid will get rid of all of it?

This is happening to my 2015 legacy. Would anyone be able to help or is best bet to go to the dealership?

FYI - Last year I bought a used 2013 Outback Limited, drove it for a year with no issues, last Friday 8/25 I got the triple light scare (AT Oil Temp, Traction Control, Brakes) all blinking. I was on vacation 350 miles from home so went to a Meineke. They diagnosed that I needed a new transmission ($6500), plus ball bearings in front right tire & something with the CV Shaft. He recommended not driving home so we dropped $500 on a tow. Dropped off at the dealership Sunday, just got the call that it's the valve body & covered by warranty to 15 yrs or 150K miles, whichever comes first. It has 120K, so valve body repair is FREE, then they'll check the other issues. Bottom line, for any transmission issues take it to a dealership or an authorized Subaru repair shop, Bonus, have a 2023 fully loaded Outback with all the bells & whistles for free while inspection & repairs being done. Great sales pitch!

I am having this same issue with my vehicle. The horn went out first. Did this resolve the issue with the horn as well or was that unreleated?

Hey mgallagher465, I have a 2013 Outback with 107,000 on it. I bought it from a friend. Was it difficult to get the service done under warranty as a second owner?

I have a 2015 legacy and am having the same issues with the lights. I took it to the dealership and they tried to force me to get a new transmission. I saw a couple other mechanics and they said it isn’t the transmission but said they couldn’t check anything electrical. Other than that, mechanically they said it looked fine.
