Is Google maps better than Apple Maps? If so, in what way?
Though not a difference between Google and Apple maps, but rather a difference between those two and other nav maps, is the ability to adjust font size. Adjusting ‘Text Size’ in the settings menu of an iPhone affects the font in both Apple and Google maps, but not most of the other third party nav map systems such as Waze, Scout, MapQuest and others. I find that feature very helpful for those of us who’s eyes have trouble reading smaller fonts. But the speed sensitive 3d mode in Waze works pretty well well for the purpose also.

Awesome tip, I didn't realize adjusting font on the phone would affect the font on CarPlay, thanks!

FYI: Apple Maps on CarPlay on iOS 14 is much more readable than prior versions.

Agree—the “menu” bar (with signal and battery strength, LTE indicator, and three recently used apps) was moved to the bottom of the screen (from its previous position on the left side). For my money, this was smart: our vertically oriented screens desperately need width real estate, and we certainly can spare height. So putting the menu bar on the bottom instead of the side is a great way to maximize width.

Well, don't know if the powers that be want to create a 2021 thread or turn this into a generic Gen 6 thread, but I picked up my '21 yesterday and here's the "Software Version" reported under System Information: F31BHM008-500

So definitely a iteration higher, but back to v500 on the '21, the '20 was F11G(H/M/B)M021-50x

Android Auto is not fullscreen, don't have Apple device to test with. But my ASS setting is on the first page of the car settings

I can't thank @chvvkumar enough! Success! The actual update process to 504 was pretty uneventful. I had a harder time getting an 8GB USB drive formatted to NTFS (I primarily use a Mac). I also had challenges downloading the zip file. Google Drive never seemed to complete the download so I used the alternate location on OneDrive which worked perfectly.

One of my biggest pet peeves was the Nav not remembering the last view setting; and that has been addressed. I'm hoping to see other minor nits addressed with this update. I'm an Android user and will continue to wait for a portrait Google Maps version like CarPlay users now have.

Many, many thanks again to all who help and contribute for the benefit of all Subaru owners.
Due to my being out on furlough since April and driving my Outback less than 300 miles per month, I don't have too many opportunities to test the new software. But after some time, I feel I finally have enough drives to be able to render some feedback. This is welcome and necessary update! This should have been included at vehicle launch but I appreciate Subaru finally delivering this update. This truly makes the integrated system not suck. I find it is actually a usable system; even the navigation though I would still opt for using my Android Auto for any serious navigation. There is still more that Subaru can do to improve the system but for now, I actually don't cringe when I need to use the built in navigation or adjust other settings.

Now I'm wondering what may have changed. Time will tell.

As I pointed out earlier in the thread, there now appears to be two CCU models for the High, Mid and Base systems. Something has changed...

That's an interesting and tricky question. We've run into locations where one or the other map system gets "lost" - circles us around the location, leads us on long detours that don't get us to the location, etc. I think in some rural locations, or places where the system can mistake seasonal roads for easily usable roads, the AIs get confused in slightly different ways.

I like the UI on Google maps better, but that's probably just a familiarity thing.

Hi all - quick question. I remember getting an email from Subaru America back in Aug saying new software update is available and then a few days later stating that there are too many issues and to halt updates. This one was supposed to make applyplay go full screen. Do you know if this was every fixed? Can we resume/attempt the update? Thanks

I would hope connectivity is improved further. Unfortunately, I went from connectivity being good 50% of the time on 502 to connectivity being good 80% of the time on 504. Even though issues are intermittent, one thing that is always consistent is that I cannot access the radio outside of CarPlay when my phone is first plugged in and I've tried 4 different cables. I only see the station number and the song name appears for about half a second then disappears. After 15 minutes I can access the radio directly. Yesterday, CP completely disappeared for about 2 minutes while the phone was plugged in. This happened to me a lot on 502.

Maybe my CCU is bad? I'm trying to be patient and wait for the next update since my dealer is 45 minutes away.

Certain IOS versions are known to be problematic, I’m wondering if yours is one of them.

It is with the 504 update.
Wow, like 25 minutes and 504 is in and well. My stop/start is front and Center so to speak, so easy to turn off. One touch of the little car icon and you are right there to shut it off. All else well on my screen, can’t say I notice much else but I’m sure that 504 update helps the system. I’m a happy camper, well almost. Do wish for bigger rims with low profile tires to tighten up the road feel. Going from my WRX to my 2020 outback the steering just is not the same, yes I know they are two different breeds but it would be nice. I did get an alignment just in case it might help. They found toe-in out on two wheels but slight, now I have peace of mind it’s the tire and rim package that it has and I’m going to live with it. Just my thoughts folks☺☺🏎🏎
