Headlights in Auto setting won't allow manual change to high beams

When I have my headlights on auto and I want to put the high beams on manually (country road with lots of deer around) nothing seems to happen when I try. I have to change the setting to OFF and then turn the dial manually to headlights. Then I can turn high beams on.

I am getting flashed on this one stretch of road, even without the high beams on. Do I need to adjust height, or are they just really bright?

Auto headlights mode puts the high beam in Auto mode as well. When the headlight stalk is pushed and clicked forward, a light icon with an "A" in it will appear in the combination meter display indicating that the high beam will turn on if the car doesn't see other traffic.

You can manually turn on highbeam by pulling on the stalk and high beam will stay on manually for as long as you hold the stalk. When you let go, high beam will turn off.

For the high beam to stay on without holding the stalk, change the headlights from Auto to just On mode and then push the stalk forward to click into place. High beam will now permanently stay on regardless of other traffic.

As for being flashed, flash then back. Sometimes people misinterpret LED low beam as being high beam, particularly over crests.

I wish the auto headlights were separate from the high beam assist.

Somewhat related: I had a "High Beam Assist Disabled" light come on for the first time. Not sure what triggered that. The Eyesight was still working so it didnt seem to be a visibility issue.

While driving to work I noticed the high beams switched to low beam in a spot where it normally wouldn't (no reflective signs or lights or oncoming traffic). When they didn't switch back to high beam after a while I used the stalk to turn them off and on and I got the alert. A couple of miles later I noticed they were working normally again.

The only thing I could think of was maybe some fog or condensation on just the third camera because the Eyesight wasn't affected.

Thats how it’s designed to work.

Not sure if the hi beam assist setting stays off when turned off or if it defaults back to on when the car restarts.
