I got my stock 2006 to 140 before I ran out of road. I think it had a few more in it.

I hope that was on a track

By the way cars are slow. I prefer fast wings. I was doing 200+ on 100hp long before I got my drivers permit. Was lucky enough to build a hot rod experimental with my gramps took 5yrs and from 13yrs till 18yrs I had plenty of back seat time. At 18 got got the front seat after 100+ hrs of solo flight in a few other slow rides. 3.5g turns and 200mph cruise at 75% power all at 4gallons an hour. After that cars were just a way to get to the airport where the real fun began.

I race sailboats now speed is all relative and the guy with the biggest wallet will be the fastest ALWAYS! The hottest plane in our hanger was the same type of plane as ours with a hand built turbo Subaru engine in it. He had about 15knots on us at 75% and could out climb us by about 100ft a minute. The designer of the plane has a jet engine in his yes his is WAY faster and the same plane. Like I said the biggest wallet wins.

I ran 110 for a while.

The car had plenty left in it but above there both front windows would break their seal as if you had tapped the down button a tad.

I'm calling BS. They're governed to 130mph. Perhaps your speedometer is a bit optimistic?

Anyway, I got mine up to over 110mph on a deserted stretch of freeway several weeks ago.

I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it again: the problem with this car isn't any lack of power, it's a lack of high speed stability.

OK, I give up. I don't get it.

Is this a pun regarding the "Limited" trim line?

Or regarding the governor?

I haven't hit the governor, but I believe Car & Driver when they say that it won't do more than 130mph.

I also believe Redline when he says he saw an indicated 140 (which I'm guessing is about 130), and it was still accelerating at that speed.

FWIW, my Impreza runs out of oomph at 120mph. I got a rental Mercedes E-class to do 230kmph on the Autobahn several years back. The Audi A4 I rented in Germany a couple years ago did an honest 240kph.

Bimmer your correct due to the stock tires and their limits they have them limited in the neighborhood of a 120-130mph depending on who you talk to but all reports tends fall in the 120-130 range for the limiter to hit.

By the way MB also limits their rides to 120-130 unless you buy the model with the high end high speed rated tires then the limiter is removed.

I've rode shot gun in a 911 on a track and we hit 140 on the strait that was fast. My co-worker a 100lb soaking wet Italian chick does track day once a month and invited me along. Her 911 is very 100% not just a daily driver! 140 on a track is moving out. Some of her track buddies from work who all have some amazing rides will swap cars for kicks. She swapped with a viper owner and against my proper judgement I did shot gun again. The 1st high speed turn we swapped ends at about 80mph I needed a new pair of shorts. After we came to a stop she laughed and said **** thats the 3rd time I've done that with this car.

Another friend has a Lotus Elise non turbo its basically a jazzed up Toyota Corrolla 4banger in a car that weighs about 700lbs without the engine. That thing was on rails and we hit 140 on the straits smashing through the gears out of the last turn and it sounded like the engine was going to fly right out of the car. Super cool car and by far hands down a true track car that will blow your mind.

Doing 110+ on public roads is border line loony. Ever see what a fox hit by a car doing 75mph plus can do? It's not pretty nor was the car upside down in the ditch

This topic of discussion has come up before, and it is NOT what the OP asked.

Suffice to say that there are 80 million Germans who don't think driving a passenger car 110+ mph (or 140+) on a freeway is inherently "loony."

Yes, it seems fast at first, but it doesn't take long to get used to the speed (hint: concentrate on nothing but driving, and look waaay far ahead).

On the other hand, you've have to be loony to drive slowly in the left lane, because that IS stupid and dangerous...

110 is definitely not looney! I got up to 105 by accident. I usually only do 20-95 runs while datalogging. I never go above that. I was just going 80 down the highway and some jerk cut me off so I went around him. That's when I realized how fast I was going. The car was very stable even though it was very windy.

As for the stock CD numbers 0-60 in 7.1 seconds is not too shabby for what the car weighs.

Took the 150k 2009 Outback Limited XT 2.5 out on the County highway straightaway last year, Fall of 2019, and ran it up to +140. No sweat. Very stable. Speedo reads up to 160. I had Pirellis on with moderate wear. Had no desire to top it out. But, we were still accelerating smartly with tach and throttle to spare when we backed off. I'll say it'll do +150 with ease. But, for me, +140 mph indicated was a plenty good high speed test. However, it WILL cruise at +115 all day long if asked. Gas mileage at that speed is probably 16-18 mpg. It will get +20 mpg cruising at 80 mph.
Took off one September early morning in 2019 outbound from Chicago going to Kalamazoo, MI. on the Interstate. Near 130 miles total on I-94. About 100 miles or so left to go when I got passed by a group of 6-8 cars going better than 95. So, I decided to step it up, tag along and keep a sharp eye rearward as well as on the pack leaders. Traffic was very light. Made the trip in comfort in about one hour. No problem. Subie 2.5 XT Limited is smooth as silk and stable as a rock at that speed. Harmon Kardon sound just fine. Not too much road or wind noise. Good wagon.
