Sanity check:

I went through this process on a 2020 and it worked for disabling the chime while driving.. but the seatbelt chime still sounds off six times whenever the vehicle is first turned on. This normal?

I typically start the car prior to buckling up/settling in. I was hoping the initial startup chimes would also be disabled!

That's what mine does.

Thanks for the response Brucey!

Can't handle a few beeps when you start the car?
In what way do you consider this an answer to my question or even a positive contribution to this thread? I was simply asking for feedback to see what others were experiencing and align my expectations.

I just tried this on my 2019 2.5 base and it worked 1st time. I barely beat the 30 sec clock. Will work nicely as others have said for the line at a fast food drive up or a slow beach crawl at 15 mph or a long, slow winding up a mountain road.

One thing on mine. If I start the car with no seatbelt on with this mod in effect, I can not drive off and have the parking brake auto release. Have to release it by hand. If I start wearing the seatbelt on, it releases automagically. Anybody else notice this?

Thanks Brucey!

Edited to add: it just struck me that that is the normal mode, chimes aside. Duh.

This worked on my 2012, had to turn the key to accessories 3 times then do the seat belt 30 times in 30 minutes. Also works on my new 2020 Outback, still have to do it 30 times in 30 seconds. Why 30, I don't know, but it works. For those who missed it, to disable it disconnect the battery for a few seconds.

Works on my 2017 3.6 Limited. Make sure it's 20 in 30 seconds. The easiest method I've found is the one I showed in the video.
I switched off my seatbelt chime years again using this method. Now that I'm selling the car, I'll need to re-enable it, and I thought I'd have to follow the same procedure. Which is exactly what I did. But the chimes don't come back on; when I drive without my seatbelt, there is only silence. Tried it twice, no joy.

What's the procedure for re-enabling the chime?

I’ve only been able to get it back on by disconnecting the battery, or anytime I go to the dealer they’re clearing something that resets it.

I was surprised that there are still plenty of folks that don't know about this trick.

I've seen this same trick work across every Subaru I've encountered.

You can stop the car from beeping at you constantly if you choose not to wear a seat belt.

You should still wear your seat belt at all times when operating a vehicle but there are situations where this is nice.

On a rocky off road situation I usually unbuckle so that I can move inside the cabin more than be tied tight to it. It makes for a much smoother and pleasant experience.

Turn the vehicle to the on position by either turning the key to the on (without starting it) or hitting the push to start button twice without touching the brake pedal.

Buckle and unbuckle the seatbelt twenty (20) times in thirty (30) seconds.

The seat belt chime is now disabled.
This didn’t, work on my 2020 Outback Limited XT. HOWEVER, similar process worked first time: 1. Start engine (not just accessories). 2. Immediately click seat belt in and out 20 times in 30 seconds. 3. Turn off engine for 30 seconds. 4. Restart engine. Done.

So I was able to successfully disable the front seat chime on my 2020 outback (thanks for the above!) — but my husband often rides in the back next to our daughter (in a car seat) and the seat belt chime gets obnoxiously loud if he doesn’t buckle up in the first 30 seconds of pulling out of our driveway.
I tried doing the 20 clicks in 30 seconds a handful of times on the back seat but no luck so far with disabling it for the back — anyone have success disabling the backseat seat belt chiming? Any tips or tricks?!
thanks!

and if there is a backseat alarm then just buckle the belt behind the rear passenger and it will sit flat behind you.

that was a change for the 2021 model... and your suggestion is exactly what the 2021 owner's manual says to do!

Those little seat belt clips you can get on amazon to silence these things work well too
Thanks but the issue is that my husband either takes a min or two before putting on his seatbelt or releases it as we’re driving up our street — both of which cue loud chiming! So leaving it buckled isn’t a solution for me/the issue.
Other ideas?

This worked for the outback 2020 !!
Didn't see anyone specifically write that it works for latest generation, so just wanted to let yall know :). Ps. I tried 3 times, and the third time I left the driver door open and wasn't seated while I did the process. You don't notice that it worked UNTIL you start the ignition after you've done your 20 clicks.

Unfortunately the chime still goes off when I start the car, and when I have the door open.... I was hoping the chime would just disappear forever for all aspects, but removing the seatbelt chime only is cool too I guess (i always wear my seatbelt so it wasn't that problematic for me... its the open door that drives me crazy)
