I have a 2012 Outback 2.5i Limited without the factory navigation but with the Harmon Kardon audio system I want to upgrade the radio to a carplay capable model and I would like to retain the steering wheel controls as well as the Harmon Kardon amplifier.

A recent search on the Crutchfield website, says to use the iDatalink HRN-RR-SU2 Interface Harness with my type of Outback, but earlier searches on Crutchfield suggested that I use the iDatalink HRN-RR-SU1 Interface Harness instead.

Has anyone who has a 2012 Otback Limited w/o factory navigation but with Harmon Kardon Audio upgraded to an aftermarket radio and used a IDatalink harness? Which model did you use, the HRN-RR-SU2 or the HRN-RR-SU1?

Also it seems that I have to pair this interface harness with either the Maestro RR or Maestro RR2. From the research that I've done, the RR2 offers programming over bluetooth and the ability to program three extra buttons? Is that the only advantage offered with the RR2? Which model is recommended?

Thanks in advance for any info.

If you search my post history, you'll see a thread where I go over the details of what I used. My vehicle had the stock navigation, so I know it varies from your question, but I can't imagine it being different. From memory, I believe the maestro brochure covers all of the different trim options.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I had read your post before and found it very informative.

You used the SU1 harness; the Crutchfield website recommended that I use the SU2 harness. We’re you in able to get the all of the steering wheel controls to work with your upgrade using the SU1 harness?

If you get a sony radio you can build your own with the end of a headphone jack.
