Is lifetime warranty on Powertrain standard?

My local dealership offers lifetime warranty on Powertrain items for as long as the original owner owns the vehicle. No limit on miles or time. Is this standard across the board? I asked if claims were limited to just them and they said it’s nationwide. I’m assuming a computer system has this information? None of my paperwork mentions it but it is all over their website that it’s standard with new vehicles purchased with them.

No. It was added into the price of your vehicle. Dealer offered it where I bought mine as well as lifetime oil changes. I was able to wave that for a further price reduction.

If you received nothing in writing then that warranty is only worth as much as the paper it is written on.

I doubt it's standard or we would have heard about it from others. Maybe we will soon, but don't count on it.

Assume nothing.

Get this in writing if you can. Meanwhile, grab legible screenshots of the website pages that say this.

If you know how to do it, save a copy of those web page that show that as it stands. In the Google Chrome browser on Windows, right click in a blank area of the page and select "Save as..." and then pick a location you can remember and specify "Web page, complete". If you're using a different browser or system, it may be similar.

The website and the warranty does seem to indicate nationwide coverage. There are footnotes in the warranty that mention exclusions, which it says you need to ask the dealer about. If they were scamming a lot of people and not honoring the warranty I wouldn't think it would be hard to find complaints about it online. I would definitely dot all the i's and cross all the t's as far as maintenance and record keeping though.

I'm sure they know the numbers and aren't losing any money on offering a warranty like this, and they just count on most people not keeping cars long enough to use the warranty, and it doesn't appear to be transferable if sold.

Looking at your dealer's website, the lifetime powertrain warranty shows up in big letters across the screen, but there also is a small pop-up yellow window that restates this offer AND has the dealer's name. We just bought a 2019 in the Atlanta area and none of the local dealers mentioned this. AFAIK, for warranty repairs the dealer is reimbursed by Subaru of America, so it costs them little or nothing. That's why your warranty repairs can be completed at any dealership, not just the one where you purchases.

Therefore, if the lifetime powertrain warranty really was a nationwide offer, it would be reimbursed by Subaru of America and every dealer would be trumpeting it. There would be no reason for them not to. The fact that other dealerships don't say "lifetime," and instead say "5 years or 60k miles" suggests this offer is unique to your dealership, implying they would pay out of *their* pocket for powertrain repairs after 5 years/60k.

If that is the case, I cannot see how they can claim this warranty would apply nationwide UNLESS they are prepared to reimburse another dealership's parts and labor costs for working on the powertrain after the 5 years or 60k miles. That seems very unlikely, but I always welcome pleasant surprises!
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. If it were me, I would not be content to capture screenshots of the website. I would accept this promise only if the dealership provides written documentation of the offer that clearly spells out all benefits and how they will be provided, as well as (as others in this thread have counseled) the exceptions and limitations. If the document has a clause somewhere stating that the buyer agrees to submit any disputes to binding arbitration and waives his/her right to other remedies -- such as the ability to sue -- I would interpret that as a warning that they want me to be at a disadvantage.

Maybe it's a great deal. Caveat emptor. As others have pointed out, if you really want an extended warranty with specified terms that you know WILL be accepted at any Subaru dealership, Subaru's Gold Plus extended warranty is available. Check the many other threads for the pros and cons.

When dealers advertise this, there making it seem like there the only ones doing it and your better off buying the car there then some other dealer. These are all extended warranty's through 3rd party's, it's just for those specific items and no more. Any dealer or shop in the country can call to make a claim on it. There hoping you don't keep it that long and they tell you, you must service it and keep all records. There trying there damnedest not to pay a claim hoping you will not have service it right or can't find records. Also who keeps a car life time?

What mustang429 said.

Do you have anything specifically in writing besides words on a web page? Do you know who underwrites this? Is it SOA or someone else? This is basically an insurance policy, BTW. What are you going to do when you are 1,000 miles from the dealer and you need to have repairs made undear this warranty? Tell the repair shop to look at the dealer’s web site? How do you make a repair claim? If the dealer didn’t provide this information to you separately from what’s on their web site, I think you might be in for a surprise come repair time.

GET WHAT’S COVERED AND WHAT’S NOT AND WHO WILL REPAIR UNDER THE WARRANTY IN A DOCUMENT, NOT ON A WEB SITE.

Yeah this whole thing does not meet the smell test. The only thing I can think of is that they are providing a third party extended warranty and burying the cost in the purchase price. A third party warranty could be good nation-wide. My dealer actually mentioned a third party warranty as well as, I think, a Subaru extended warranty - can't be sure of the exact details as I never get them so really did not pay to much attention but it was "you can do this or this or this and cover the paint and the interior blah blah blah" I just see it as a way for the dealer to make a few extra bucks - not interested.

I’ll know soon. I asked again yesterday and was given the same info/promise. I asked where is this in writing, since my paperwork has no mention. We then discussed with finance director who told me I’ll be receiving a packet in the mail in a couple days with all the information. We’ll see what comes.

They have to have a copy of it, and there's no excuse to not provide a copy to the customer ahead of closing - unless there's something they don't want you to know.

And likewise there's no excuse for a customer to go through with a closing until all the contract paper is in hand and it meets with his or her satisfaction.

I am not sure if you read the reviews at the link that was posted earlier BUT it appeared that there were many unhappy people due to the fact that the company giving the lifetime warranty (not the dealer) was not very good at honoring their end of the deal.

Hopefully you will never need to use the lifetime power train warranty as it appears you will "get what you paid for" (that is, nothing)

And reading the Century company reviews suggests this offer is worse than nothing. You pay more for service and claims will be denied anyway. And if you really want an extended warranty you will skip the SOA coverage which most likely will pay with better overall coverage and allows for non-dealer service.
