IIRC Buckminster Fuller had to abandon his original concept for the rear of the Dymaxion car to 'fly'(lift) and steer at highway speeds due to effects from crosswinds. That vertical rudder piece in the back of the motorcycle is going to need to retract somehow I think.

 

Low altitude flying is very energy inefficient so I don't think that personal aircraft will ever be common transportation unless they are nuclear powered or we develop some kind of insanely cheap energy source. Imagine running out of gas in an aerial traffic jam.

 

Yeah, not common in the foreseeable future. Toys for rich folks , maybe...

 

riders have been flying motos for decades. I don't think Travis Pastrana holds any patents for it though.....

 

On April 1 (no joke!) the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published an application by Subaru for a utility patent on a flying motorcycle:
