Something that has been happening for a few months. After every major rain event, I get water leaking into the trunk on the right side. The dealer says it is a known issue with the middle brake light and can fix it for $150. Can anyone confirm?

Yes. Just did this repair on my 2011 a week ago. The gasket surrounding the third brake light was shot. I removed the upper hatch interior trim panel getting access to the two retaining nuts on the light bar, removed the light, cleaned the old gasket off of the back side of the light and the gasket material stuck to the outside of the hatch surrounding the opening for the light.
I used a RTV silicone gasket maker. I found mine leaking about three hours before the car was heading out to start a new life in my daughters possession. I didn't have anything else to use for a gasket on hand so the RTV will do until I see the car again and can install the proper gasket.

Has anyone seen a similar leak in a Gen 5? ( I have a '17). Occaisionally there is water leaking down the inside of the rear hatch window. I do not believe this is from the 3rd brake light as in the Gen 5 that light is outboard of the glass at the end of that overhang spoiler. But there is a separet piece on top of that rear spoiler on the top of the rear hatch extending from the roofline - but it is on the hatch - not the roof. Never could figure out why that kinda insert piece is there - but I think that is where the water leaks in a Gen 5. I think that gasket is shot. Anyone familiar with this on a Gen 5?

Any piece on the exterior that is installed at the factory using a foam gasket behind it will eventually leak. These lousy foam gaskets on automobiles date back at least to the 1990s. They all eventually break down and allow water leakage.
