Hi, I am getting the P0475 code on my 2016 Outback diesel. 9 out of 10 times it comes WITHOUT the CEL, it only shuts eye-sight, ESP and anti-collision off. Turning the car off and starting it again removes the warning lights (not that 1 of 10 times with CEL, then I have to reset the code).

This seems to happen only when the car is idling, like idling when parked, breaking when coasting on the highway etc.

My workshop's first idea was low battery voltage (why I do not know), but changing the battery didn't help. Finding no info on the allmighty internet, I was wondering if this is something anyone have experienced? Any other likely culprits than the Exhaust pressure control valve itself?

Hi, and thanks for the feed-back!

He didn't do any hard-ware checks - there were a coupe of old "codes" present but not active (ESP, and servo I think), so he wanted to ensure the voltage was good and see what happened when all the codes were deleted before doing anything else,

Where is the hardware (butterfly valve - solenoid - manifold connection and pressure sensor) located? It would be nice to have some basic knowledge myself before letting the technician go to work chasing this down with the meter rolling!

And also, with 60k miles on my car, maybe cleaning/removing the valve is a good starting point. (Especially since that's what the code says...)

If you have more than 50k miles on the car I suggest the valve be removed and cleaned regardless.

Good day, did you find any solutions to the problem ?
I get the same code and same problem, especially when its warmer than 25 C outside.
Yes I figured it out. The problem was the electric actuator for the butterfly-valve in the exhaust pipe - it's the rectangular cover in the picture where the cable/caonnector sticks out. Easily removed, and in my case the gasket for the cover into the actuator was faulty so there was water inside. I just WD-40'ed it and wiggled it back into operation, no problems since.

Easy and straight forward, 20 minutes job.

PS You don't have to remove the butterfly valve itself, only the actuator covers.
