Potential 4 cyl. Engine Swap - 2010 Legacy to 2006 Outback

A relative just gifted me a 2010 Legacy with less than 7,000 original miles. Of course it has an automatic transmission. I have a 2006 4 cyl. 5 spd manual Outback with over 275,000 original miles (original owner). Is it possible to swap the 2010 Legacy engine into the 2006 and mate it to the manual gear box? Or am I better selling the Legacy and using the money to have the old engine rebuilt? BTW, there is nothing wrong with the '06 engine...still running strong at 275,000 miles.

First, if there is nothing wrong with the 2006 H4 2.5i engine, you would be best served continuing with things as they are. If you've accomplished 275k miles on it as the original owner, that certainly points to you doing a lot of things right with it.

Second, a 2010 Legacy with only 7,000 original miles is probably worth a lot more than the value you would get out of it as an engine donor car. If it's yours to do with as you see fit, with no expectations on the part of the relative giving it to you, why not sell it and bank the money?

Third, yes, they are both the same basic EJ253 H4 engine. Some accessories would likely differ, perhaps even the cylinder heads, but it could be transplanted. You would still use the 2006's ECM in it, and some wiser heads here can probably tell you the specifics of what would stay and what would go in the transplant.

There are actually a lot of differences between these engines. 2010 uses front engine mount, although old style mounts can be installed.
I had these 2 engines side by side, with intentions of doing this exact swap, but changed my mind once I compared them.

I'm not saying it's not doable, but it's not a straight swap.

Oil pans different, 2010 has individual coil packs mounted to each cylinder
