No, I don't think I'd call that "knocking"

Just that it seems to make sense for my start-up sound.

This not the first engine I had with hydraulic lifters but surely there is a way to quiet it on start???

Engine has the "typewriter" sound which I always thought was a healthy engine. If it even has that.

 

Either you are mistaken to the function of the engine, or you're in the wrong section.

No '00-'04 Legacy/OBK had HLAs.

 

Try and post a video, that'd probably help more.

 

BTW .... I don't think the lifters on these ej25 engines are hydraulic ....

 

Valve lash specs wouldn't be on a sticker. .008" for intake, .010" for exhaust. 2002 has a solid lifter.

 

They're listed in mm on the emissions catalyst sticker located on the underside (passenger-side) of the hood .... on my car anyway, a 2001 base.

 

My gen2s all have what where called roller rockers back in the 60s/70s.

 

Can a 2001 Legacy GT 2.5 engine swap into a 2002 Base AT?
