Alright Subi family… I know this is on all of our 5th gen owners minds. I want apple car play but don’t want a new car. My 2016 Outback is the best car I’ve ever owned in my life, the only thing I wish mine had is Apple Car Play. I don’t want to lose the nice stock look, I know some cheap aftermarket unit just look awful. I came across a website called “Smarty Trend” they have a very nice looking unit that is 700 bucks! I’m just hesitant about ordering it because there is not a lot of information about the unit or the website. Wondering if I could get some input from you guys about it.

I made a write up for my 2016 head unit upgrade. I also have done all door speakers F sound deadening. Next will be under seat subwoofer. This head unit does great wireless car play.

There have been one or two threads discussing a unit from Canavie.com which fits the factory space better than anything else I've seen, but specifics on installation are sketchy, with some suggestions that it may not be very straight forward, particularly for HK systems (due to amp complications).

If I ever come across a clear install DIY I would consider this unit. Here's the original thread:
