Screen protector for 8" infotainment screen?

Can somebody point me to a decent screen protector for the 8" infotainment display on the 2018 OB? I haven't had issues with glare, so clear or matte would be fine with me, and I'm find just covering the "screen" portion (i.e., not the part around the knobs and "buttons"). Based on a search of the forum, seems like a common problem with the film protectors is that they shrink/expand differently under temperature extremes compared to the screen itself. I bought a film protector for my previous car and didn't have that issue at all, so I'm hoping that there is something suitable out there.

Many thanks in advance.

Gentleman,

I am here to solve your problems.

I have no interest in the company other than being an extremely satisfied customer. The screen protector covers just the screen and nothing else. No cut outs for knobs, buttons or dials.

The type of protector is DayVue and you will be very happy with it. It cuts down (doesn't eliminate it) glare when the sun glances off of it and the touch function isn't compromsed in any way at all. You will find favorable reviews here from satisfied buyers.

This is the link and they do have them for the 2018 OB but on the chance you want something different than what they have, they have terriffic CS and will custom cut anything you.

In other threads of discussing the biggest and best mods, I've consistently put this protector and the RSB/bushings in that category.

I used this brand on my Harley-Davidson Garmin unit. It did a great job and I was able to use gloves with it.

Glad this subject came up. I just placed my order.

Just as a thought, someone will need to try this out...

Try out the material that is used as clear car body protectant film (car bra). The only problem I can see is if it messes with the capacitive matrix that detects your finger touches on the screen. Even before you stick the film to the screen you should be able to manipulate the touch-screen through the plastic.

That would give you scratch resistance and when it starts getting really cloudy you can just peel it off and start again.

I surely will not be the one trying this out. Paint Protection Film adheres with strong adhesives and generally require use of slip solutions to properly place. Once installed and the adhesive cured, removal is not an easy process. Application of heat is about the only way to get the adhesive to release it's tenacious grip to allow it to be peeled off. Once off, there is usually residual adhesive left behind requiring use of adhesive remover to clean off. I have PPF on the painted surfaces of my cars but no way will I even consider installing it as a screen protector on expensive electronic equipment.

Also, remember that using polarized sun-glasses obstruct clear vision of these screens (iPhones. Garmins, Tesla huge display, etc).
Non polarized sun-glasses enable much clearer vision of any type of screens in cockpits!
For that reason, I always carry 2 sets of sun-glasses, one with polarized lenses and one without.

following. Not sure which DayVue number I need for my 2017 Outback Limited with nav. Looks to be the same as the 2017 Touring.

NuShield's ordering process leaves a little to be desired (but the product is great!). That said, for the 7" screen in your 2017 Limited, you can use the first line item in the attached pic (that's what i had in my 2017 w/7" screen). Pick the description underlined in red from the dropdown on NuShield's site (after you filter for Subaru / Outback / DayVue). For a 2018 with 8" display, the second line item can be used. I just received the larger version for my 2018, but haven't installed it yet. It is sized appropriately, though (I checked). As i stated above, I was completely satisfied with the DayVue in my 2017.

I have already ordered a Dayvue Nushield protector for my 2018 outback. Before I apply I wanted to know if they help hide any scratches. I had a detailer (yes, a detailer and not a drive thru car wash) put in scratches on the touchscreen by using some harsh solution. These are like swirl marks only visible in sunlight or direct flashlight. In shade or indirect light the screen looks flawless. I read in places that a good screen protector could mask such scratches. Nushield CS was very diplomatic in their response i.e. they neither denied nor confirmed if it would work. I am going to put on the screen protector but thinking if I should try to see any polish options to remove these scratches. I know its a big risk on touchscreens.

I ordered the wrong size film for my 8" screen but the NuShield guys took it back & then cross shipped me the correct size. Super easy, Super service, Super quick I'm recommending NuShield to everyone. Buy some screen savers from them now !!!!! Well you don't have to but you know you want & need one, plus you won't be disappointed by NuShield.

Nushield is cross-checking for me. They do not have a listing for a 2017 Outback Limited with navigation. Go figure?

Try chat or check for the form that you can fill out with the size you want. Measure the length, width & diagonal.

I don't know. I've only owned the 2018 touring model but maybe someone else with a 2017 can measure theirs for you. You know you can email them & they will help you. Just get your measurement first & include that in your email.

I received my Nushield dayview screen a couple of weeks ago. Then went on a 1000 mile trip. First thing I noticed was a semi-mat appearance when the screen is off. When on it looked very clear, bright and transparent. No change in touch functions. Then I forgot about it as I was focused on driving. I never was conscious of any glare. I suppose it just did its job. :)

Exactly! In bright light and at the right angle you can see the grid in the screen protector. Kinda of trippy but shows that this was a thought out item.

OP poster here. I ended up using an extra matte screen protector that I had for my old CR-V screen. It was made to cover the entire head unit surface, but fit the the illuminated portion of the Subaru 8" head unit well enough that from the driver's perspective, it's a perfect fit. Free, and I'm waiting to see if there are any issues during the winter.

Anyone order an 8 inch generic tempered glass vehicle protector from ebay?
I don't have an '18, so what follows may only apply to MY 2015-2017 Fujitsu Ten head units:

I had a generic tempered glass screen protector on the 7-inch Fujitsu Ten head unit in my 2015 Legacy for about a year. It installed easily, worked well, and I really liked it, but after six months it would occasionally lift at one of the bottom corners ... especially after the car had sat in the sun on a hot day. The problem slowly got worse and worse, until I finally removed it altogether. (It removed cleanly and easily.) At first I thought I might not have cleaned the head unit screen surface sufficiently before installation, but it turns out that the face of the head unit has a slight curvature while the glass screen protector is perfectly flat, and the inherent stiffness of the glass resulted in a constant tendency to lift (i.e. delaminate) at the corners. YMMV.

If I had young kids or something I might consider it.

But really it's not like the info screen is rolling around my pocket with keys and change like a cell phone, or being placed face down, like my cell phone.

I'm hoping cross my fingers that me touching on screen with the tip of my finger won't scratch it.

But to each their own.

A couple of things that have lead some of us to buy them that may or may not be applicable to you:

1. If you have a dog that likes to put its front paws on the dash to see where their parent is at. The nails tend to scratch things and I have scatches on other things but on the infotainement screen.

2. The model that people are talking about has an antiglare pattern in it. You can see the zig-zag patterns where it takes the light and channels it away from the display but the patterns is only visible at certain angles when the sun hits it so you dont' see it except in rare circumstances.

3. Chicks dig it.

Screen protector for 2019 Outback

I got the screen protector film from sales@photodon.com phone:847-377-1185. I hope it will cut glare, reduce fingerprint smudge, and reduce brightness. The screen is too bright in the night, even manually set at 2 but is not bright enough for daytime use.
The screen protector is cut for 2019 Outback after measurements, and only covers the touch screen area. In the Subaru manual it said that should not use screen protection film. We use similar films all the time for tablets, smartphones, and never have issue of touching functions so it is not concern. Driving cars would cause accidents but we are driving all the time.

If you are interested in getting screen protection, please call or visit the website. The protection film comes with cleaning kits for screen and detailed procedure.

So I have the screen protected without worry of scratching it when clean it if necessary.
