I just checked my STARLINK app on my phone & the message I received was this: SUBARU STARLINK app service will be discontinued & no longer available at the end of March 2023. I wonder why they are doing away with it. 2020 Subaru Ice Blue Silver Outback owner

dunno. There was another short thread about this the other day. I haven't seen an official subaru statement about it, guess it's just something that sort of fades away. Like their support for updating maps on the gen4 cars. Just one day - POOF.

there are some things the Starlink app can do that the MySubaru doesn’t do for the Gen5 cars. Maybe they will roll that stuff into the mySubaru app.

Wonder why the Austin dealer where I'll buy my '24 OB Touring XT next week, wanted to charge me for 3 years ($120 or so) of Starlink then? I refused, of course, but just curious what was for. Those kinds of services have always been included for free for at least a year, but typically 3. But I've never renewed any of them, so if I'm going to be charged for it, I don't want it.

you get Starlink Safety Plus on all new Outbacks for free for 3 years. when i picked up my Touring XT yesterday, they offered me 3 years of Safety Plus for $99.95 for 3 years. There is an additional plan called Security Plus. this is normally $4.95 a month, so what i was offered was roughly a half price discount. it allows remote starting and other things:

STARLINK® Security Plus*
Package Includes:
• Stolen Vehicle Recovery Plus
• Stolen Vehicle Immobilizer
• Vehicle Security Alarm Notification
• Remote Lock & Unlock
• Remote Horn & Lights
• Remote Vehicle Locator
• Remote Engine Start**
• Remote Climate Control/Heated Seats***
• Boundary Alert
• Speed Alert
• Curfew Alert
• Trip Logs and Driving Journals
• Destination to Vehicle
• Valet Mode Status
• Valet Passcode Reset

FWIW, i declined it. while remote start is nice, being in CA, i don't think i'll use it much because i'm also MPG fixated. (which i got over partially and bought the XT anyway :) )

@JCtx the base Starlink plan should be included. Upgrading to the Safety & Security Plus plan (adding app-based remote start and other features) is what they're charging for. Ask them to throw it in on the deal - mine did as a 'returning customer incentive' or something like that, my salesman wasn't doing the paperwork with me (he was the one saying they'd do it) and the one that WAS doing the paperwork wanted to charge me but after I challenged it and he checked he processed it right there.

You are not limited to only three years for the discounted subscription...it's also available for 4 and 5 years which is what you will want to choose if you plan on keeping the vehicle at least that long. Why? Annual renewals are $149. Get the discounted subscription for as long as you can that is at least as long as you intend to keep the vehicle. Should you choose to get out earlier, you can get a prorated refund.
