2000 Outback Limited 2.5 automatic.. Thought I'd post the outcome of an axle replacement with the $58 Cardone HD axles from Rock Auto. The car was vibrating under load and at speed along with a buzzy idle. The inner joints and splines felt pretty loose to me so at 170,000 miles and with me being the second owner with no idea if they had ever been replaced, I went ahead and installed them last week, knowing it's kind of a gamble. It's like a different car. I just had an out of town job yesterday that required a 450 mile day along highway 101 in California, and I was cruising smooth as butter at 75-80 mph the entire day. Smooth idle too. Don't know how long they will last, but there's one data point for you.

Honestly, I haven't replaced an axle in a Subaru yet... but I have bought and installed Cardone axles on a few Hondas and a DSM I had on the past. One car, an Eagle Talon, I put 85k miles on it with no noise or vibration. The others held up without issues. I just sold the Hondas after another 60/65k without issues.
