I have a 2022 Outback Touring XT. The infotainment was updated about 2 months ago. I noticed after that was done that the text messages were not coming through the infotainment like they used to. I unpaired the phone and paired it back to the car. No luck. Messages come through the phone just fin. I went to the dealer and they told me there was another update for that issues. I have an iPhone by the way.

I went in today to have the new update done. The technician said the update was current. The only way to get it to work was being plugged into Apple Car Play. It worked after being unplugged but we shut the car off and started it back up and it did not work. He reset the infotainment and tried again without luck.

System Information

Software Version: FB1SHM141-280

Map Version: 41012

Does anyone know why it might not be working? Due to the update? Is it an Apple not sharing technology? Subaru engineers missing something in the update?

Not sure which is the infotainment software version on my '24, but it's current. What was outdated a lot was the map version (42xxx), which now is 44275. Yours is even worse, so update it before you run out of the 3-yr free update period. I did it via USB, to update the whole thing. By the way, did you do your software update via Wi-Fi? Just curious. Good luck.

There's discussion in other threads about Apple changing something in iOS that is causing the issues with the text messaging in cars. It's not just Subaru, it's other makes as well.

@JCtx the 2020-2022 systems update the firmware slightly different from your 2024...

Well I have been having issues with text messages not showing up as well. Been through multiple "try to fix it" scenarios with Apple, Subaru and the local dealer.....all to no avail!
The latest I heard is that Subaru has "blocked" text messages showing on the scree for safety reasons.....haha....they said that there have been many accidents due to people looking at text messages???
However it's funny as I as well as others who have iPhones are having this issue. But my wife has an Android phone and her phone show's up text messages on the screen..... so I guess Android users don't have accidents????
Apple told me it's a Subaru software issue and I believe them as Apple BT connection on other cars work fine.

Mine started working again when I deleted the paired phone and re-paired it from scratch. I also made sure all permissions were turned on, especially for messages. It's weird, though— bulk sms works fine through my Bluetooth connection on other systems, but Subaru’s head unit seems picky after the update. Maybe give that reset a shot before digging deeper, it fixed the weird glitches for me instantly.
