It does look great! Thanks for the transparency on price, this is something I've been thinking about and it's really nice to see it done and what the investment might be.

Wraps are not permanent. Even the best installers often have mistakes that show and almost all will wear with age and peel away.

 

There’s something that looks so good about the OEM stuff. I think it’s infinitely better than the wraps if you’re willing to pay the higher price. And will last forever as well!

 

I like it. IMO its worth the price to get rid of the chrome. This is mainly why I went with a White Outback. So its not as noticeable.

 

I'm looking at the window trims aside from the "rear triangle" window glass. It seems like the trims are just held in place by plastic tabs that can be popped out, behind the weatherstripping? Interesting. I might be willing to do the windows themselves myself, and then pay the service department to do the last "pita" window.

 

I'm looking at going that route as well.

One of the big reasons I choose my vehicles is black trim and badges.

 

Very nice posting prices! This of course is the nicest result of them all, that said, it gives me the chills :-D Most chrome delete kits comes with unbranded non-airchanneled vinyl or people at "every" professional shops just use Avery vinyl for chrome deletes because it's silk thin and fast to wrap but gives bland and non scratch-resistant finish unless you use the gloss ones. Averys gloss is not that glossy or even that deep in color. Subaru is also hard to chrome-delete because of the fit-finish of thin rubber against the chrome trims.

If you from this post are discouraged from a planned chrome delete because of the finish, buy KPMF and for the lower parts of windows start with setting the straigth edge towards the rubber edge because you will never get a 100% cut on this part. It will make it alot harder to set the rest of the film down on the trim doing it this way but it's timewise faster than trying to cut against nothing. Stretch from and out over the corners with 10cm lift and press down and hook it hard so it when heated will want to crawl around the corner and not peel. Do everything with cold-stretch and no heat-gun, just have a heated garage. Cut and hit everything with insane heat. If nothing moves, you are good for no peeling for 5-7 years with self-healing scratches in the summer sun

EDIT: Saw @OutbackPilot tried chrome delete from Crux. They use Avery and 3M (similar thickness). Old tech, easy to lay down, questionable finish and very easy to mess up the color characteristics, especially on matte. Also has bad scratch resistance both on setting the vinyl and after. Not flaming, OutbackPilots car is beautiful and I am jeallous, just providing info on vinyls 🙃

When the Wilderness came out one or two members here did that and posted images. Search Copper Delete or Orange Delete.

 

question on the small triangle window did you have the glass tinted before you did the chrome and they just swapped the glass out or did that piece of trim come separately and they just kept the old glass in? i've seen it talked about both ways on here and just wanted to get it clarified before I order parts. Because mine is already tinted.

 

You have to replace the entire window to get the black trim. You cannot just replace the trim around the triangular window. I’ve read most of the messages and for the triangular window, there are only two ways to get black trim; black trim tape and replace the entire window, which comes tinted, just like your current window. Replacing just the trim around the triangular windows has never been an option.

Wouldn't worry about it - the threads are full of people who dropped way more than that on fancy wheels as a cosmetic upgrade.

I went the plastidip route - yes after 3 years I have a few "chips" so I will either have to try and touch them up or pull off the plastidip and do it all again. There is just no way I can afford $1700-$1800 for chrome window delete a can of plastidip every few years is more in my price range. BTW - the red outback badge on the side is also plastip

I also went with vinyl wrap. Did around front and rear emblem rings as well. Plasti dipped side emblem also.
Few other things I did.

Tinted rear reflectors. Way too red stock.
De-badged it. Looked good with the black badges but like it cleaner.
Ceramic tint.
Nameless strut tower bar.
Nameless axle back exhaust/5" muffler.
Perrin 20mm wheel spacers with 235/60/18 Toyo Open Country ATIII.
Oh, and the Rally Armor mud flaps. Had some OEM I put on but like the RA better.

With no badges its backside looks nakey!! lol but I like the mud flaps, gonna swap to that too, thanks for the idea!

 

Should have come this way for sure. Very nice. My local shop wants 500 bucks alone to wrap only the chrome.

 

I bought the crux kit. If i mess it up so be it. I'll just live with the chrome. There's no way I'm paying 500 to have it pro wrapped or 1800 to replace the trim. Just no way.

i’ve called around to all the Subaru dealerships in my area and asked about this process and they all act like i’m speaking braille. I have a 2021 outback onyx with the chrome trim. i’m concerned the trim can’t be swapped due to the fact that the wilderness trim package wasn’t rolled out until 2022. any thoughts or input?

 

It CAN be swapped I'm just not sure why you'd want to pay two grand to do it.

 

At least one person on this forum has done this and produced a parts list. It is expensive and the rear windows have to be replaced, the chrome trim doesn’t come off. Not sure why you’d think a dealer would know how to do this.
