POP! thats that sound they make unless you take it to a tuner shop that has all the fancy programming machines and can map the fuel systems and engine control systems. Have people done this? Yes but they all tend to be professional tuning shops doing it to see if they can. You want turbo best way to do that is to buy a WRX. Engines with turbos have blocks and heads specifically designed to handle the added loads and cylinder pressures and they also have very very different engine control module mapping to address the fuel loads and demands created by the added pressure generated by the turbo.

The money spent to do it correctly would eclipse the amount of money it would cost to just go out and buy a used STI.
So can you do it? Yes....But WHY?
Yeah I just wanted more power, keeping the car the way it is. Don't get me wrong the H6 has performed the way it should be all I wanted was just a little kick.

Thanks NotStock

Thanks alot subiesailor for the advice just was thinking about doing it until your advice hot me thinking. You are right about going to a performance shop, they will have all that high tech machinary and computers, it will cost an arm and a leg for sure. I guess my next Subie will be a WRX STI maybe within a couple of years from now.

Thanks Subiesailor

No such thing as a bulletproof turbo engine - Lean them out @ high boost & any turbo engine will break.
The key to boosting any engine is getting a safe "tune" on it.

A couple buddies of mine have GN's one has an old school big t76 BB turbo on both the stock block & later on a built stage II 4.1l Block & it runs well, the other blew his stock engine on the stock teeny-tiny t3 turbo - ? bad injector(s) or weak fuel pump but it did blow...

LOL...just throwing out some options. We can all dream.

The folks at Outfront motor sports put a lot of their engines in dune buggies. The 500 HP turnkey motors start at $16k

I had them redo my heads when I replaced the HG's on my H6. They do great work.

Anything will blow up if it goes lean enough. Especially with a bad injector or fuel pump. Same goes for a NA engine. If you put a small turbo on a big engine, the turbo will be more likely to fail from being overspun. If you get a reliable proper sized turbo for the 3.8, it can handle huge amounts of power.

This is what I'm talking about.

Seabass your starting to sound like my Oregon family. Couple of old junk cars parked out back for spare parts on the current 70's pickup with a billion and one miles on it. And for fun during the winter one year they picked up a Chevy econo box 80's era body and interior all original looked brand new - gutted the engine and transmission - put in a built up short block Olsmobile V8 in it. Talk about utter and total stupid fast get killed in a flash kind of car. LOL

For fun my uncle would drive it around running errands it had a full and proper exhaust system sounded nearly stock at idle and low RPM's - he would wear goofy bright plaid shirts with suspenders and stupid looking glasses and challenge kids driving Mustangs and Cameros at stop lights. Then literally leave them in a nearly burning patch of rubber and smoke ha ha. That car was so F-ing dangerous it was just pure stupid 100% and it looked like grandma's POS well kept chevet original gold paint and mint condition trim hub caps and interior ha ha.
