Today/This week I finally got around to getting my Perrin Lightweight Alternator & Water Pump Pulleys, Fluidampr Crank Balancer, and Invidia UEL installed. I also put my Grimspeed Trails trim pieces in a couple weeks ago, can't remember if I posted pics on those either. I will try and get a good audio clip of the UEL (HS22SW4HDUEL) Header in the next day or two. I also have a clip to upload of the exhaust before, as it already has the Nameless Dual Chamber Catback installed (SUCB20OBXT-5MU-DC). The quest to make my FA24 sound like my 05 OBXT is heading in the right direction, I am still working with a manufacturer to produce a GESI catted J-Pipe for our car. The only option at the moment is the I-Pipe from Rae Motorsports to my knowledge, but that does not include the catted J-Section.
Some notes and mini-reviews of the parts installed:
The Grimspeed Trails pieces look great, but do not feel very secure in their installation. You have to be EXTREMELY careful around them when you are working in the engine bay. Buy they look nice, and the fender pieces remove the gasketing that seals the hood to the fender. This does let in more water and and dust, but also allows for better air extraction from the engine bay. I have noticed lowered engine bay temperatures from this, I have the thermostat readings somewhere and will post them if I can find them. It was a relatively substantial difference. The Pulley Cover would have no issues on a standard engine bay, but it really wants to touch my AOS and will need to do something in the future to make some space between them.
I installed all 3 pulleys at the same time, and I am genuinely shocked how noticeable of a difference it was. The low end throttle response was greatly increased, much snappier, with my heavy tire/wheel package (LP Adventure LP1 wheels 17x7.5 20ET & Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 245/65/17 65.25lbs total or 5.25lbs more than stock) makes the throttle feel like it did with the OEM wheel package. Additionally, the Fluidampr makes the engine rev much smoother, as it has with any other fluidampr I have installed. 12/10 couldn't be more pleased with these upgrades.
Invidia UEL, meant as an installation for WRX only, can confirm fits the Outback just fine. I would be a little concerned how close the longer tubes would come to my splash guards, but that do not appear they would touch if I can get them back on. Which I plan on attempting to add back onto the vehicle very soon. These sound SO GOOD with the catback exhaust, very pleased, and the Dual Chamber exhaust system still cuts down the cruising drone. The downsides, yes you lose a very small amount of low end torque under 2500 rpm. It is noticeable, with the first tune from Dmann the low end is still a little better than it was previously with the addition of the lightweight pulleys. If I did not have those pulleys it I think it would have been much more noticeable, and a bit more of a negative.
I did not have time to try and fit my aFe Terra Guard Bumper (79-27016) back on, the passenger side under-brace runs dangerously close the the UEL. I am almost certain I will have to do some fabricating to make it fit. I will either need to lower the brace down a bit and lose some ground clearance, move the bar out towards and possibly lose wheel turn angle, or cut that section out entirely and lose some of the recovery and crash functionality of the bumper itself. Hoping to get under there today or tomorrow and at least figure out if it is going to be an issue at all.
Sorry for the pic on the header, accidently cracked my screen protector while working on it so the pics are a bit blurry. I Ceramic coated the Header before installation to try and help with some of the heat mitigation since you cannot install the OEM heatshield from the header onto the Invidia UEL, and just for overall protection since I live in the PNW. It gets wet here and the overall consensus for long term header wraps are just bad, even though I have never had an issue with them here, but I never wrapped the headers on my older Subies, just the downpipe. curious if others have different experiences. I may try to slide some sort of thermal blanket between the header and oil pan, HOWEVER, initial driving tests under light/normal driving load have shown reduced oil temps across the board. Though it has cooled down a bit in the last few days so it could be that, but my oil temps have stayed under 200 on my commute. Where it typically would have been 205-21. Installation was not easy, but not so difficult that I couldn't do it by myself. But I would highly recommend a helping hand, and with any header work on these cars, BE EXTRA CAREFUL WITH MANIFOLD STUDS. For a few weeks prior to install I applied PB blaster to each manifold stud at night, and for 2 days before the actual install. No accidental stud removal and zero damage to any threads, but the Invidia kit comes with new turbo flange studs so I replaced the factory studs anyways. I also disconnected the Cat from the I-Pipe to give some extra wiggle room on the turbo for install and removal which made it much easier.
Nameless Exhaust I may have done a small writeup on already, 10/10, its only downsides are it doesn't clear the rear skid plate on the OBW. Also makes a weird whistling noise at WOT, but the new header has lessened that effect. I just pretend they are turbo sounds.
Invidia UEL (Header got a little bit scuffed during install, most of what you see is anti-size I couldn't quite get off at the time):
