Can we change the title to highlight that the issue with the 88 is the ethanol and not 88 by itself. I feel this is going to start the whole "What gas should I use?" discussions again.

I’ve never come across 88 octane that I can remember. Just 87, 89, 91 (and sometimes 93)
Has anyone else encountered 88 octane fuel (without the 15% ethanol) anywhere other than Sheetz? We ain’t got no sheets in Maine. Just sleeping bags. Lol
I run regular 87 in my 3.6r, happy as a clam.

 

Kinda like 85 octane and 86 octane, 88 E15 is only available in certain regions.

 

I live in a state that mandates E15 between Nov15 and April15. I don't have a choice. The governor is petitioning EPA to allow E15 year round.

How does it run? Sheets has the 1.99 deal going on and I figure one tank can't hurt

 

My 2020 Outback 2.5 says 87 and higher, but not more than 15% ethanol. You interpreted the wording wrong. Not that I'm going to but you can put 88 in some.

 

Edit* Double checked owners manual, the 2.5l cannot take higher than 10%, the 2.4l can take up to 15% ethonal. Always check owners manual

 

Nov15-April15 is E15 mix on all octanes. It's has been for as long as I can remember having a drivers license. There was something weird about the laws on how Ohio could have E15 in the pumps, and it could only be there for so long. DeWine petitioned the EPA to lift the regulations to offer the E15 year round as it was cheaper and COVID paychecks happened. 88 E15 is what became of the Governors petition. I'm still on the fence if Sheets Cotton-Candy pop is an aquired taste, or if it's disgusting. lol. Their Fiesta Chicken and Southwest Turkey wraps are awesome! Better than most restaurants.

 

i been running 88 fuel in my 2003 2.5L outback subaru for ever. never did any mods car is 100% stock. the only change is how much cash i been saving. I been useing this fuel for the last 5+ years weekly fill ups

 

I have a 2011 Outback with 283k on it and running great. I usually fill up at Casey’s with the 88. Never had an issue.

 

Nice update for this. My 2003 Outback, 248K Miles no head change, EVERYTHING is original under the hood except the Alternator that died at 244K miles. We did a compression test and all cylinders are reading 170-172 psi. same as day one
Still only useing the 88
