You can lift the motor and trans as you want to.

Disconnect the motor mounts, the pitch stop and the transmission mount. Lift with a block on jack or with a hoist. I have done what you are suggesting for your purposes, I can't comment on the procedure, just how to lift the motor.

 

This works with all the boxers.

If you want to raise the motor buy a Forester.

I lifted my '17 by that amount by backing off the nuts on the side motor mounts and disconnecting the front motor mount from the cradle. I then used a jack and a block of wood under the front mount to lift it. Leaving the transmission mount connected and only loosening the side motor mounts keeps the engine in check - it literally can't go sideways. I don't recall anything else I had to disconnect, but be careful and watch closely for things that may need to be loosened. It's been over a year since I did this, so the details are fuzzy. YMMV.

 

what did you do last year that you needed to lift the engine on such a NEW car for?

 

I thought the Gen 3 had enough clearance to remove the rocker covers. I have not had to do the job yet. Mine leaked while still under the extended warranty.

I don't remove the injectors. It's very tight with the VVL hardware. You have to lift it and move it as far as possible right and left to get them off. Even with that, you still have to wiggle and fuss to get them out.

Original poster is right, for the SOHC the FSM recommends removing the fuel injectors.

My car will be ready for the 30K service when it reaches 180K next month. Every time I change the plugs I cross my fingers that I dont spot oil. Which is less painful, removing and reinstalling the injectors or lifting the engine?
