Initialization of power window
If the vehicle’s battery is disconnected due
to situations such as battery or fuse
replacement, the following functions are
deactivated.
. One-touch auto up/down function
. Anti-entrapment function
Initialize the power window in the following
procedure to reactivate such functions.
1. Close the driver’s door.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON”
position.
3. Open the driver’s side window halfway
by pushing down the power window
switch.
4. Pull up the power window switch and
close the window completely. Continue
pulling up the switch for approximately 1
second after the window is closed completely.
Thanks man, that is an interesting and simple little fix.
Just curious what is the anti-Entrapment function?
I like the idea of not being coerced by police into a fictional crime ;)

so I tried this half open window method and it didn't work. the window goes down fine, but goes up only 1 inch with each pull. any thoughts?
Im having this exact problem. My battery died on me once and turned off the auto feature (which was already going in 1 inch increments) and the window went up and down without problem. I tried the "fix" to re-enable the auto touch feature but it made it go in 1 inch increments again :(

I just got in the car started it and rolled the window down and held the switch for 1 second and then rolled the window up and held the switch for another second.. Window works

I just came back from work. I drive a 2012 Impreza 2.0. I never had a problem with my driver side window until tonight while trying to open my frozen window. Now the window goes up inch by inch when I close the window. Anyone now how to fix that problem?

The "auto up reset" function described in the above posts and in your manual should work.

My window will occasionally lose its mind and have to be reset. It only seems to happen on very cold winter days, or days with ice. So I think it's somehow related to being frozen in the track and overloading and resetting something.

deleted this off a good spambot like person's deleted post: (which had junk links on it)

Roll the window down from the passenger side with its button and hold it down once all the way down for 3 seconds or so.
Next roll it back up and again hold it up for 3 seconds or so. This resets/programs the window then the driver side button should work.

but just used the above to reset a 2018's passenger side window, which was not responding to the driver's master switch. and then after restetting it with the doors own switch the driver's master switch works again.

My driver's side auto-up/down feature stopped working for some reason. Found this video and was a quick fix.
The auto up/down on the driver's side window in my 2013 Subaru Legacy stopped working. The window went down if you held the switch down. But going up, it only went 2 inches at a time. The fix was: run the window down and then up 2 inches at a time. When the last one closed the window, continue holding the switch in the up position for at least 5 seconds. That fixed the auto up/down feature.

When I reset the windows I always hold the switch button down in both directions until I hear the "click". Works for me.
