there ya go

get you a fancy wilderness model with the moonroof/navigation, and then add the Nappa leather seats to the wilderness, and you got you a $50K outback.

Also note: river rock pearl is a color option for the wilderness only, in addition to that new green pearl color.

base model is no longer an option, you start with a premium.

  • All-new Subaru 12.1-inch Multimedia System touchscreen paired with 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster standard on all models
  • All-new Subaru Outback Wilderness debuts with standard electronically controlled suspension, available Nappa leather-appointed seating

  • Available at retailers nationwide starting later this year

Subaru of America, Inc., today announced pricing on its all-new 2026 Subaru Outback SUV. The award-winning and legendary SUV from Subaru enters its seventh generation this year, featuring bold new styling, upgraded technology, and the latest generation of advanced driver assistance features to complement the all-new model’s legendary capability and utility. It arrives at retailers later this year, starting at $34,995 MSRP.

Celebrating its 30th year on sale with more than 3 million models sold in the U.S. alone, the all-new 2026 Subaru Outback combines all-new technology and versatility with the biggest styling updates in the model’s history. Like its predecessor, the 2026 Outback comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and at least 8.7 inches of ground clearance. This year, the Outback introduces an all-new 12.1-inch Subaru Multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, paired with a 12.3-inch full digital gauge cluster on all trim levels.

For 2026, the Subaru Outback will be available in six trim levels: Premium, Limited, Touring, Limited XT, Touring XT, and Wilderness. The Outback is powered by a 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine making 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. A 2.4-liter turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® engine making 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque powers the Limited XT, Touring XT, and Wilderness models. All engines are paired to a Lineartronic® CVT (continuously variable transmission) with 8-speed manual shift mode and Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

Bold, All-New Styling

The all-new 2026 Subaru Outback adopts a new styling direction this year, with an exterior design to convey a more powerful presence on the road, while staying true to its roots as a practical, everyday vehicle. With production of the Subaru Legacy sedan ending in 2025, the all-new Outback forges a new styling approach to align with its mission as an adventure-ready SUV.

The front of the new Subaru Outback is stronger and broader, with headlights vertically placed at its four corners to emphasize its functionality on- and off-road. Body-color styling elements frame those headlights, and an all-new front fascia is more upright for a more impressive on-road presence. The lower front facia is textured for better scratch resistance and improved aerodynamics.

With similar proportions to its predecessor, the all-new 2026 Subaru Outback’s improved interior design delivers a significant improvement in interior volume and cargo capacity, featuring a taller and boxier profile that emphasizes its spaciousness and durability. Behind the rear passenger door, a wider rear roof pillar communicates the SUV’s strength.

The Outback’s tall ride height and width are punctuated by a new rear light signature that spans the width of the rear liftgate. A steeper rake on the rear window adds more cargo space inside, and an embossed SUBARU brand on the lower rear fascia is easily removable for trailer hitch installation.

Inside, the 2026 Subaru Outback adopts a calmer, cleaner design with thoughtfully placed technology and materials, including headliner inserts made from recycled plastic bottles. The all-new infotainment display and digital instrument cluster are aligned for convenience and accessibility, while the upper dash panel and interior layout are aligned for continuity and everyday use. The climate controls have their own dedicated hard-button and knob controls. The center console cupholders are designed for easy use, and bottle holders in each door now offer enough room for 32-ounce water bottles.

2026 Subaru Outback Premium

Starting at $34,995 MSRP, the 2026 Subaru Outback Premium serves as the entry point for the all-new SUV, and is well-equipped with all-new styling, safety, and technology features.

Starting on new, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with dark gray finish, the 2026 Outback Premium includes exterior features such as a power rear gate with automatic close and height memory, standard raised ladder-type roof rails with an 800-pound static load capacity (220 pounds dynamic), black rear badging, and a removable rear trailer hitch bumper cover.

Inside, the new 2026 Subaru Outback Premium includes black water-repellent StarTex® interior upholstery, a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, multi-use cargo tonneau cover, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, and more.

The latest version of EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is equipped on all-new Subaru Outback Premium and includes Automatic Emergency Steering, Emergency Stop Assist, Front and Side Alert Assist, Emergency Lane-Keep Assist, Haptic Steering Wheel Alerts, Front Cross-Traffic Braking, and Lane Keep Assist. Blind-Spot Warning with Rear Cross-Traffic Warning and Reverse Automatic Braking are also included. A Wide Angle Eyesight® Camera utilizes a 180-degree view ahead to help prevent collisions with pedestrians and cyclists, while a standard DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System helps drivers keep eyes on the road ahead.

The all-new, standard Subaru 12.1-inch Multimedia System includes SiriusXM® with 360L (4-month trial subscription included), wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® compatibility, HD Radio®, Bluetooth® audio streaming and hands-free phone connectivity, and multi-touch gesture control. MySubaru Connected Companion services are standard on 2026 Outback (5-year trial included) and offer SOS Emergency, Advanced Collision Notification, Vehicle Condition Check, and more. MySubaru Connected Services Companion+ (3- or 5-year plan offered) includes Connected Companion services and adds Remote Engine Start with Climate Control, Remote Lock and Unlock, Curfew and Boundary Alerts, and more.

An optional package for Outback Premium adds rain-sensing wipers, onboard cloud-based navigation, a wireless smartphone charger, a heated steering wheel, and a moonroof for $2,270 MSRP.

2026 Subaru Outback Limited

Building on the impressive standard features found on the Premium trim level, the 2026 Subaru Outback Limited adds a more refined interior and technology features for $41,715.

2026 Subaru Outback Limited XT

Featuring a higher-output SUBARU BOXER® 2.4-liter turbocharged engine making 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, the 2026 Outback Limited XT starts at $44,365. In addition to the higher-output engine, the Outback Limited XT adds 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with black finish, surround-view monitor, and dual exhaust outlets, compared to the Outback Limited.

2026 Subaru Outback Touring XT

At the top of the Outback lineup, the Touring XT trim level includes features found in the Outback Touring and adds a higher-output 2.4-liter turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® engine for $47,995 MSRP.

2026 Subaru Outback Wilderness

The prices in your first chart for the 2025 don’t match what is shown further down.

Subaru will be moving up in price tariffs or not.

Positioning in the market crucial to survival, they must move up. A big nail in the Nissan coffin was they got stuck selling the lowest price car in USA for too many years. Subaru may keep the Impreza around for show, but the real entry level will be Crosstrek, and they will push it with a lot of options.

Worst thing IMO about the "tariffs" is that they may go away, but the prices will never go down again.

#10 ·
I kinda want a crosstrek. Thought I would want a wilderness, but after seeing them around town, nah. A sport maybe, with some options.

heck, if it had a power liftgate and a heated steering wheel, I’d probably already own one.

I’d be happy with some more options on a crosstrek.

#13 ·
So here's the thing, I want one. Although I'm torn between the two top of the price scale trims. There's the Wilderness with all the options that would give me daily drivability but with the added offroad ability when I want it once in awhile.
But then you have the Touring XT with all the new hands free highway driving assist tech that really interests me.
Oh, first world choices!

Im not a fan of the new OB, nor am I a fanboy of Subaru in general, but maybe in time it will grow on me. It looks like a Nissan Pathfinder. Doesn't matter as I have an 2025 OB anyway.

Something will have to give when 50K price tags becomes the norm, I just don't see the appeal, and all the bulbous and angular designs these days, and the tech add-on, like every vehicle maker is in a losing contest with Tesla's Robotruck. Prediction: A bunch of neurotic people at the helm of dildo inspired vehicle design mindlessly driving about the roads of America. Did you know vehicles now come equipped with mood lighting? They do, you can change the interior glow to a color of choice. Some much frothing at the mouth and so little substance IMO, like the AI boom that's about to go bust, and that lithium boom we didn't have based on everyone not buying an EV. Reality checks are a bummer, so are hemorrhoids, over 140 million spent last year on Preparation H in the USA. Priorities are out of whack more fiber less everything else I say.

He gave me a useful reminder that this is a much revised model, not a refresh, and that underlies some of the price increase. It also has taken this long for me to get a feel for how the whole OB line has been upgraded, with the elimination of base, and the upgrades to premium.

Looked it up the base base Legacy MSRP for 2025 was $24,895, unchanged from 2024.

I still think the move of OB production was a signal they were going upmarket with it and up in price. I guess they hope to sell more of the new Outback than the previous one, because they believe the SUV style is ore marketable these days, than the SW style. IOW SW has run its course. But if they think the gen7 will sell more, why move production to Japan? That move would suggest to me they expect the new OBSUV to sell a lot less than the Crosstrek or Forester, both of which are to be assembled in Indiana.

Now we need some informative OB SUV road tests.

That local article does leave out how Subaru IIRC intended to set up an EV line in Indiana too. Makes sense since till recently, there were govt programs in place to encourage EV production and purchase in USA. Were.

Anybody got some references to Subaru's EV plans for Indiana? If no more EVs there, maybe we can expect augmented Forester, Ascent, Crosstrek production, and discounted prices to unload them?
the only thing I have seen recently was the press release about the 6 millionth vehicle produced…

“U.S. production of the Subaru Forester will begin at SIA this fall, followed by the Forester Hybrid in the spring. SIA expects to produce its 8 millionth overall vehicle in November.”

#31 ·
Interesting... how much it is going to cost in Canadian pesetas?
I went Subaru shopping twice this summer, last was a week or so ago. No pricing yet, but I’ll call this week and see if that changed. New outback’s won’t be available until Nov/Dec at the earliest, possibly January. There was only one new 2025 left in Canada, we’ll have to wait for production to get into full swing in Japan. It avoids the USA Tariff war.

why move production to Japan?
To avoid (counter) tariffs in the rest of the world, is what I was told. No idea if that is true, but sounds plausible. It is holding back sales of new Subaru in Canada right now.

Thanks for reminding me, as I had done some digging the other day. Maybe there are other threads, but there is a thread I looked at the other day https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/ob-possibly-leaving-indiana-for-production-in-japan.568472/
where post #16 still links to a local Indiana newspaper article from may 2024 that describes some of the production changes.

https://www.wlfi.com/news/new-hybri...nd-current-models-leaving-sia/article_3c13f1b2-1943-11ef-b705-b3a2c4c0b09d.html

Looks like the decisions were made well over a year ago or IMO most likely quite a while earlier than the date on the article. Maybe years, which also led to Gen 6 having an extra year. Well before there were active issues around enacted tariffs. So IMO tariffs reciprocal or otherwise played no role in the decision.

That local article does leave out how Subaru IIRC intended to set up an EV line in Indiana too. Makes sense since till recently, there were govt programs in place to encourage EV production and purchase in USA. Were.

So I am revising my theory (just conjecture by a non business expert car fan) to be that Subaru decided that in order to have an EV line, they would have to cut back or cut out existing model(s) production. They decided to move OB production to Japan as part of their upmarket strategy for OB and their belief that it will sell fewer units than before, but at higher transaction prices. Now in view of changed US regulationa they may cut the EV line down or out, which would leave them with more even capacity for F, A, and C, now that OB is gone from Indiana.

It's a good story and I'm stickin' to it (4 now).

I could be wrong, but I suspect there is a “rough-in” level of structural development and manufacturing cost to accommodate a future hybrid powertrain. Also, starting over on the infotainment system and environmental controls was expensive; this new configuration increased initial development costs as well as sustaining production costs. If the net tariff increase is 12.5%, I expect there is pressure to increase prices further for 2027.

I bought mine 2023 Outback 2.5l Touring with Napa Leather when it was 1 year old with 7.5k miles on it for 40k with the tax included (Georgia) back in 2023.I would never allow to these bustards to enforce me paying 50k for wilderness! Go for something else. This new 2026 outback looks like my butt! When i saw it first i was devastated by its look and 0000 changes for 3.5 raise in price!I feel Subaru will experience super decline in the next 5 years!!Their new Forester hybrid is disaster, outback is disaster, Ascent is turbo, only crosstreck left with 2.5l engine in a small body! Disaster after disaster!

This, right here, is why I'm depressed, after this stuff got dumped in my indbox, Because there is no way on this earth that I'm even ever having the chance of getting a full JDM sweet goodness manual Levorg STI R in the USA. Cool. And also, LAME.

I mean, I could read all these posts. Composed a relevant loquacious missive. Maybe I'll send it.

More to follow...
