I have the same "stall" feeling some of the posts here seem to describe. Under light acceleration around 10-15mph, its as if you let off the throttle or pushed in a clutch. Yes, if you ease into the pedal further, it picks right up... but it's quite annoying. It's my wife's car, and I only drive it about once a week, so I do not get used to it, and feel it every time I get behind the wheel.
same here, going down hill, usually sharp left turn, step on the gas, feels like it stalls for a second, then picks back up

Test drove 2019 Limited in 2.5 and 3.6 versions this week. The 2.5 shuddered noticeably when accelerating from a near stop - on a couple of occasions - great other than this circumstance but enough to push me to the 3.6 which was very smooth. See others have had shudder with the 3.6. Would be very unhappy to have this shudder in my soon to be new Outback.

I drove another 19 2.5 today and did not experience the shudder. The 2.5 without shudder would meet my needs. I will test drive the actual OB I purchase before signing any papers.

Your post was a total derail there is nothing normal about the shudder in my 2015 3.6r. Wish I wouldn't have trusted your totally incompetent diagnoses. My bad.

Did the dealer fix your shudder problem? Mine started recently at 42k miles. I noticed your car is lifted with off road tires. I run k/os with 2 inch lift, skid plate, etc. Did your problem start after modifications?

2015 Legacy 3.6R Shudder 40-50MPH

Hi everyone. I have a 2015 Subaru Legacy 3.6R with about 56,000 miles on it. A few months ago, I noticed a shudder when driving. It only happens when you are driving along 40-50 mph. If you lift your foot off the accelerator, in about 2-3 seconds you feel 3 shudders. It doesn't seem to do it if you are going under 40 or over 50 mph. I have had the car to my local dealership and they could not duplicate the issue. I took it back in a few weeks later and requested a tech ride with me. He did feel it, but told me it was normal. Something about a part in the transmission opening and closing. ??? No warning lights have come on. Not sure if this is related to the low speed shudder. I have not experienced that issue. Anyone have any ideas or has anyone also experienced this?

2018 Outback 3.6 with CVT Stutter

I bought my Outback 3.6 in June 2018 and it has had the dreaded Lineartronic Stutter on acceleration and acceleration from Day One. It varies from a stutter to a lurch to balking.

The dealer has assured me Subaru would take care of it but now in my thirteenth month, SOA has just notified me that they could not find any defect and the car is operating as designed. I asked if that meant it is designed to operate in how I am reporting it and all I got back was corporate speak that it is operating as designed.

Now we know why they extended the warranty on the Lineartronic. To head off a recall. Ultimately though, if enough people complain, it may happen anyway.

I am pursuing various avenues to get some resolution to this but SOA has been unhelpful which is disappointing to say the least.

Though I like the vehicle, had I known my vehicle would have this issue and Subaru would be either unable or unwilling to fix it, I would not have bought it in the first place. Unless the dealer and SOA come up with a meaningful fix, this will be my first and last Subaru. :frown2:

One concern is that Subies with the Lineartronic can develop this stutter. Mine had it from day one but there are many posts here where owners say it developed over time and gets worse. SOA is not standing behind their vehicles because I believe it is inherent in the flawed design of the Lineartronic. Its a shame because it is a really good vehicle in so many ways. Had I known they couldn't or wouldn't fix it, I never would have bought an Outback. Mine will be my first and last Subaru.

Chip this shudder is at really low speeds right? Like say 10-15mph or less right?

There are two types of shudders that seem to happen one is not related to the CVT given even my 2001 MT 5spd did it. This was a slight groan / light shudder typically experienced when turning sharp from a stop like say making a sharp left turn from a side street the shudder was the AWD system loading up all 4 tires and the tight turn plus AWD system would generate this light shudder and low groan sound my CVT OB does it too if you really listen for it. My Land Cruiser actually did it also but you had to really listen hard to spot it.

If were talking about just moving in a strait line at very low speeds the CVT acts more like a Manual Transmission in that the Torque converter ie Clutch if you will in a MT car locks up and does not need to unlock till the car comes to a stop. A CVT can alter gear ratios without having to release the clutch / torque converter as a result under very slow light throttle you can feel a shudder type effect as the CVT alters ratios at really slow speeds almost a very light version of shifting a manual car into a gear thats too tall for your speed etc. Very similar effect. I tow trailers with my CVT and towing up a steep boat ramp in AT mode the CVT will alter ratios at the wrong moment and nearly stall the car exactly as if I had shifted a manual car into the wrong gear and nearly stall the engine etc. However! The CVT will correct its mistake before stalling the engine.

I suspect what your asking about is the second example. I have over 60K on our CVT and at really slow speeds like creeping through a parking lot you can feel a shudder type effect as the CVT alters ratios.
Thank you from 2021! 2014 OB owner and I thought I bought a clunker.
