So I started another project on friday and just finished it up!

There is a couple of things I want to add to it but that is for another time.
So everyone tell me what you think!

Very cool, but it isn't finished yet! You REALLY need a grill or rock guard to protect the condenser from stone damage.

Does it have recovery points built in, and is it strong enough to use to jack the car?

Please post some detailed pics of the build.

THIS

A fine metal mesh radiator guard would be VERY beneficial.

Something like the Safari Rally cars would run:

Very nice! I could only DREAM of making a tube bumper!

Could you elaborate on how you mounted it? Pictures of where it's mounted?

My only tiny little complaint is that it looks like the bumper is a little on the small side for your lights.

Also, you running a skid plate with the bumper?
I used the stock bumper bar mounting points, the lights are actually giving more light than before! and i do have a skid plate

This next weekend I'm going to add some expanded metal from my roof basket build for a grill/rock guard. I still have the stock tow point as of now and it seems to be strong to use a jack on. I'm still planning on stuff to add on to it.

Now that was a fun experience! Basically I made a clean spot in my garage took as much of the trim off, like the bumper, thing below the doors and on the sides and masked the rest of the car off with a lot of newspaper, gave everything a lite sanding and gave it abut five even coats of krylon fusion in flat black. It took a good five hours of painting and I let it sit for another five, overall it was pretty easy. As long as you have a garage and can hold a spray paint can a good distance from the surface your painting its pretty easy. Just remember that most of the quality in the final product is all from the prep work!

Yeah the prep work makes the difference for plastic.
I have heard mixed reviews of the Krylon.
Can't tell from the photos, how does it look up close?

#16 ·
Yeah I will at some point.
Someone decided it was a good idea to put a power washer nozzle about an inch from the body on my car.
So the plastic is missing some paint already, a good time to try a new color.
Never liked the tan/silver anyway, black is much better.

Sadly the overall clearance hasnt changed but my approach angle basically doubled! And your "Alabama Jokes" are always welcomed considering :) half the people in this state that I know think that their big ole truck on some 38's are the best and the only thing my car is good for is to get grocerys! The other half have already seen my car go through worse then they could imagine their trucks doing!:D

The rear tube bumper is gonna be a fun challenge its been raining to here to much to really do anything with the rear. I think I'm gonna take off the bumper this weekend, mounting is gonna be fun. That and my muffler might look a little exposed, hopefully I can't start building that next week or weekend. I'm selling my brush guard i made to a friend with a woods truck and that should be enough to pay for all the metal. Anyone ever taken the rear bumper off before?

The swing out tire carrier and Jerry can holder would be pretty easy to make, or even add on later. Too bad I already made a roof basket to hold anything I need... I like the idea of fiberglass, if you could pull that off it would be a whole new level of awesome! I was thinking about something like that using thin sheet metal. Hmmm ideas

well I guess I didn't think out the whole "help" thing, because I am far (Oregon). I just meant online guidance I guess haha. I've got a nice mig setup but haven't done much with tubing.

The only concerns I have are bending of the pipe and notching.

What kind of pipe bender did you use? (sorry if this was said already, I read the whole thread but can't remember and don't want to look again).

And how did you notch the pipes?

I just got a cheap harbor freight bender and I fill the pipes up with compacted sand so it doesn't kink. So it was like 100 dollars for the bender and 12 for the sand, and I just got a cheap notcher that is meant to be used on a drill press but I rigged a way to use it on the vise! If you decide to make it your self I'll be glade to give you as much help as I can!
